When I go to Orlando, for a week or more, I miss Canadian news. Assuming one does not take one's laptop, or have internet access through other means - my question is how to access Canadian news.

1) Can one buy Canadian newspapers (eg Globe and Mail) through any newpaper outlet stores in the Orlando/Disney area?

2) Are local newspapers published for Canadian snowbirds?

3) Do any local radio stations offer Canadian news programming?

4) Do any hotels/resorts offer Canadian TV stations, or at least stations with some Canadian news?

On the last point - I have some news, having come from Orlando a few days ago.

1. Disney resorts do not offer anything in terms of TV stations with Canadian news (but they do offer overseas German, Arabic, Japanese etc! - how can we as Canadians petition Disney to offer such a TV station through their cable/satellite programming - as there must be more Canadian visitors to Disney resports, than visitors from those countries?)?

2. Westgate (timeshare) resorts offers Newsworld International - a subsidiary of Newsworld. It offers some Canadian news, some British news, and also international news from other international broadcasters.

I'm planning on taking my shortwave radio when we next go, and I'm hoping I can pick up either CBC or RCI from Orlando. Has anyone had any success with either or these? I know CFRB in Toronto also broadcasts on shortwave (49m band?) but I've never had great luck picking up their signal.

LOL This brings about a story from last year (Nov/Dec) visit!:) We left here just before the Federal election (voted at the advanced polling station) After the election we could not find any information on who our Prime Minister was! LOL I actually had to phone home to ask our DS who had won. There was nothing in any TV station or newspaper......I kinda felt like we were on a different planet! LOL DH always bought a paper but no Canadian ones were to be found.

Also the night before we were to fly home there was a tremendous snow storm here in Southern Ontario (remember that one??)Dec 11th/01.........we watched every weather report on the TV but could not get any weather beyond the US boarder!!! We just didn't exsist! I again had to call home to see just how bad it really was......and boy was it bad!:(

So hopefully seema there's someone at home you can call to see what's happening up here! LOL;)

I remember that storm, sammi. We were landing it at around 3:00PM.We were one of the last planes able to land at Pearson.Took us 4 hours to get home. How funny we were in WDW at the same time last year.Just in time to get home and start shovelling out the driveway so we could get out the next day to pick up our dogs from the kennel.

Sorry, Seema, I can't offer any advice - just sympathy. It has to be a really, really BIG Canadian news item for it to appear on the American news. Let's see now.... I remember years and years ago hearing that Pierre Trudeau was dating Barbra Streisand while I was somewhere in the U.S. Like I said, only the big news makes it - none of that unimportant "who is the next prime minister?" stuff, LOL.
