Canadian Help: IPhone 4 extended warranty at Future Shop??

Thanks for all the helpful replies! You are right....it is very hard to swallow paying an extended warranty to the tune of almost the cost of another phone!
I think I will go with the extra yr. of Apple Care, since the things I am most concerned about (ie) cracked screen are not even covered with either warranty.
At least the internal workings will be covered with the Apple Care.
I will have to look into how to add that to my son's phone, but think I will wait until he at least opens it up on Christmas morning!
Thanks again and if anyone else has any experiences with purchasing/not purchasing the extended warranty when purchasing your new iphone, I'd love to hear your take.
Thanks again! :)

You would just phone the Apple phone # to get the warranty. You should find it in your Apple booklet that came with the phone. I have both a Macbook and I phone, and their customer service is #1.

As someone who used to work for apple. I say go with the apple care. Not only are you gonna get better more friendly customer service from them. They will help you in person at any apple store and on the phone. From technical issues to just asking a question about how to do something. It's worth it. They may not cover the cost of a new phone if there is physical damage (the only downside) but they will still do everything they can to help you out.

does the apple care cover the battery? And I've just purchased an iphone through bell - just recieved it this week.... can I still add the apple care from Bell?

Yes it does. The only thing not covered is physical damage. So if it was dropped into water or fell on the ground and there was evidence of the impact they wouldn't cover the cost.

Give Apple Care a call, 1-800-263-3394. You'll be able to get it over the phone. You can also ask any question you have. They're really good at helping out with any issue, big or small. :thumbsup2

Are Future Shop extended PEP warranties worth it? How does a Future Shop Warranty compare to an Apple warranty? Read on...

Future Shop extended warranties, particularly the PEP Product Exchange Plan is a form of fraud and extortion, in my opinion. For FEAR of being legally pursued by FutureShop (reffered to as the Mobsters) for my public comments, the following feedback is considered simply an opinion based on an experience.

FutureShop sales agents are trained en-mass to deceive customers and sell this warranty (the warranty agent acknowledged a high frequency of inquiries regarding the FutureShop PEP warranty - verifying that this is an indemic FutureShop practice and is well known).

When a valid warranty claim is brought to Future Shop, their technicians are trained to decline the claim as no re-producible. When the same phone is brought to the Apple Genius bar, it is easily replaced under the FREE one year Apple warranty. So despite having paid $142 to date, FutureShop refused to replace my handset.

Sales agent made wild claims "I've seen customers get 8 new handsets in a year!" or "there's no cancellation fees".

This is extortion.

FutureShop, the "Mafia", is charging a "protection" fee. As soon as you make a claim, they reveal that they do not actually protect you, but rather that they are going to further victimize, harm, and punish you, for questioning the fee. This is a legally binding contract and they could potentially destroy your credit record if you chose to exit the contract by some method, as recommended by company agents themselves, that is to claim your credit card was stolen and have the number changed.

I cannot believe this is happening in Canada!

The agent kept saying there is no proof that the sales agent deceived me unless the conversation was recorded. Thus, the warranty company recommends that you DO NOT buy a future shop PEP warranty unless you record the sales dialogue with the sales agent.

After Apple replaced the iPhone on warranty, the FutureShop warranty agent revealed that my warranty was no longer valid as it was not transferable to able phone not replaced by FutureShop. The circular fraudulent nature of this PEP warranty is bizarre! Again, comparable to paying a mobster a protection fee, that should you cease to pay they will indeed harm you. The protection fee is not from any valid potential harm, as you are safer off not buying into the protection fee in the first place!

I was astounded that the agent sympathized with my position.

To sum this up, I asked the Future Shop warranty agent if she had ever seen iPhone's replaced under the FutureShop PEP warranty (she had previously stated that she had worked for the company as long as the PEP had existed)

HER RESPONSE: "umm, not really", followed by her admission that she "never buys anything from Futureshop".

I applaud her integrity and honesty, as the company will probably crack down on empathetic humans and find a legal manner to further steal money from Canadians.

That sums it up - DO NOT BUY A FUTURE SHOP PEP WARRANTY!!!

Well check around in your area as well there is a iPod repair shop in Edmonton that my boss uses, and they are wonderful and decent priced. she has had a couple of screens fixed there (89.00) and then something was wrong with her ipad2 and they were able to fix it.

I rarely get the extended warranty, as we never seem to use it, and paying that amount of money seems crazy.

We did get one on our furniture, but thats a different thing!!LOL

I wouldn't bother with the Future Shop extended warranty,
I would go with Apple.
The Future shop extended wouldn't kick in until the original manufacturers warranty is over anyway, so you are paying now for something you may not use

Op here....thanks guys, interesting! I actually wrote this last yr.....I ended up not getting the extended warranty. I will perhaps add on a extra yr of apple care if I am not too late. Funny enough, my hubby bought me an iPad for Christmas last yr.....4 days shy of it turning over to the PEP he bought at future shop, it died.....kaput.....future shop recommended I take it directly to apple....as they couldn't help me until 4 more days when the manufacture warranty was over....hubby and I took it to apple, and less than an hour later I am walking out of the store with a new iPad! It was great customer service...,too bad I couldn't upgrade to iPad 2, but hey...l was happy to have hassle free replacement! I will go to apple from now on for my computer based purchases.....and when I am in the market for a new cell phone, I think I may look into buying direct from the apple store :)
