Hello all fellow Canadian DVC members. With not being able to travel we have some points we are either going to transfer or rent out. We want to keep the USD funds received in USD dollars to pay of dues and a cruise. What have you used with paypal so the funds are not converted to CAD funds. We have a TD US account but it doe snot seem to work with that.

Thank you,

Contact TD. You need to open a US *based* bank act, not a US dollar Canadian-based act. We chose a TD in Florida. Just make sure to clearly state that you want to open an act at a US TD bank.

I've got a US bank linked to my account and when people send me money, PayPal will automatically convert it to Canadian funds unless the send selects US funds to send. This is a huge pain now. Before I could just cancel the payment and have them resent it, but PayPal now keeps the fee even on cancelled payments.

Anyone know if you can make the default always be US dollars?

I don't have any first hand experience, but I wonder if you were to send out an invoice through PP in USD, if that would keep it as USD?

I tried with TD already and we have to be in the US to open a US based account which we cannot do. I believe with RBC you can open on from Canada but have not confirmed yet.

It’s been a bit of a pain ... we would have to get a US based bank account as others have mentioned which comes with a monthly fee. I looked at a work around with using PayPal to buy US disney gift cards but the disney website didn’t like my Canadian billing address. Someone mentioned using PayPal to buy US disney gift via Target but I haven’t tried that...

I have an RBC US account. I just link my Debit card from the US account. If I get a US payment, I just transfer into my US account.

You definitely don’t have to be in the US. We did it over the phone. We did have to call a US number. Maybe ask to speak to a supervisor at your bank or if you scroll to the bottom of this link there’s a spot for questions.
