Canadian dollar heading to par!!!!!!!!!

I'm stuck in the middle on this one. I am involved in manufacturing so the CDN dollar going up is not great for that. But I do love the par part for my disney trips...going to start saving US in my US account again.

If you are curious about what is currently driving the canadian dollar to a one-year high, read that article from the Globe & Mail.

Currency traders are expecting the Bank of Canada to raise the interest rates... but personnally I don't think this will happen so soon. If the BoC don't raise the rates, the dollar will probably take a slight dive (2-3 cents). Thats only my very humble opinion though...

I just asked my travel agent to take the final payment on our upcoming trip. Even if it'll save only a few dollars, its a few dollars more to spend at WDW! ^^

According to what I heard on the radio this morning, the BoC has indicated that the rates will not increase until July of next year. Great for those on variable rate mortgages:-)

Well, technically the BoC wants to keep interest rates low for as long as possible to help the economy and exports (manufacturing sector). But, if they fear inflation they'll raise interest rates. It's nearly impossible to predict interest rates movements 3 months ahead, so I wouldn't bet on the accuracy of a prediction on rates 10 months ahead of time, even if it was made by Mark Carney.

Not a banker by any means.

Is considering dollarization an option?

Are there any advantages/disadvantages to adopting the US dollar as our currency?

Should North America have a single currency?

Not looking for a lot of flag waving but someone who has a knowledge of international currency.

Does having our own currency give us greater control and ability to implement an dependant monetary policy.

I would miss the Loonie & Toonie.

No interest in using the US single dollar bill.

What about the Amero?

well I WAS excited the dollar was rising because I'm going down for black friday shopping next month but NOW I'll be pricing Disney trips all day at work! :cool1:

Up to 95 cents today.

EricMat: I hear you - look at what happened in Australia this week. No one predicted it would go up, but it still did.

I know it may not be good overall for the economy, but if it even stays where it is right now ...it will be the first trip for me, ever, where I'm not paying something like 30 cents on the $. I'm kinda loving it!

Our payment is due November 1 - I'm still hoping it will sneak up a bit more - hope I'm not being too greedy. Last trip the Canadian dollar was stronger but our trip back in 03 we were paying $1.62 for a US dollar. All extremes!

made my final payment on my US funds mastercard last week....so when I buy some us to pay that, I will be a happy girl> LOL

Well I for one am super excited!:cool1::cool1::cool1::cool1:
My husband told me for my birthday (in July) that we could go to Disney again next year & I have been waiting for the dollar to hit .95 to book our trip.
I awoke this morning to a text from my DH saying "book disney"!!! And I just booked Disney princess on Ice tkts this morning too!!!

What a magical disney filled day!:lovestruc

I am definitely going to take advantage of cashing in Canadian Dollars for American bucks when it hits par. Last time, I procrastinated and missed the boat. A friend cashed in 10 grand and ended up making 30%. Much better return than RSPs. :thumbsup2

Dollar hit .97 this morning on foreign markets. Too bad our banks are closed today. As soon as it hits par I am buying and depositing to my US$ account. We are going for three weeks at Christmas and I am paying for my sister and her family as a thank you gift and Christmas gift. I find myself watching my banks foreign exchange rates more than I am on the DIS

I am so happy about this!!I might be buying an add-on for DVC sooner than I thought now.:)
Hubby texted me at work on Friday as it climbed to buy more $ for US acct.
We are going in March and July so we want to sock as much away as possible while the rate is so good.

We are also thinking about adding on. When we bought our dollar was at $1.03, I was mad I didn't get it at $1.10!

Ever since, I've been very smug about what my DVC membership cost me. I think we should add on now so we can take advantage of a perfect storm:

1. high supply with people hit hard by the recession and needing the $
2. low demand on the resale market for the same reason
3. Disney letting a few lower ROFR go by because of their own corporate belt tightening
and now 4. CDN $ going to par!!!

I don't think I can resist:eek:

A reminder that as of yesterday no more free valet parking for DVC members at resorts where it had been a perk.

We are in the process of buying into DVC as well. Just waiting to call in with my credit card numbers and the $ starts jumping. Good thing Disney is not in a real hurry for the payment. If it reachs par, that's a 2K saving from when we first started talking with Disney.
