Canadian DISer's Weight Loss Get In Shape Thread

Congratulations to everybody who has lost this week! Way to go!:cheer2:

To those like me who have maintained their weight this week don't give up! You will still reach your goal, Slow weight loss is healthy weight loss!

I'm so proud of everyone and their successes....keep up the good work! Welcome to all the new joiners - we welcome you and any advice or tips you want to pass on....

Well...lets see....tip of the day....if you don't feel like working out (which is often the case for me), take 5 minutes just to go for a walk, or do some housework (great exercise, btw). Usually you find that you will have to energy to continue the workout and next thing you know, 20-30 min have passed!

Yesterday, I went for a 4km run, and today we are doing a cross-country 7km run....I am really looking forward to it!

I have a weakness - I work nights, and I realized that I like to indulge in the early mornings....I need some advice on how to curb my cravings! Although, last night, someone brought Ms. Vickys Sea salt and malt vinegar chips to work (uhm...my favorite!) and I didn't eat one, and they were open in front of me all night - I don't know where the will power came from! Also, I think nurses are some of the most unhealthy people (sorry to all my fellow nurses out there - but its true!). Working in peds, I cannot tell you how many parents bring us chocolate, Tim Hortons donuts, squares, pizza, cookies, etc., on a pretty much daily basis - it's really hard at times to say no. I have to use some pretty good will power here to make it through the next couple of weeks (I get one cheat day a week, but for the first two weeks, I have to eat really good to clean out my body!).

Anyways - congrats to all the "losers" out there this week - Hopefully next week, I will get to join all you losers!

A food I really enjoy is spaghetti squash. I cut one in half, add about .5 cup of water and nuke it for about 10 minutes. Pull apart the inner veggie so it looks like spaghetti. I measure a little parmesean cheese and/or tomato sauce over it. It's filling and the squash is only about 50 calories per cup! S

Have a great vacation and we look forward to seeing you when you get back! Are you going on a Disney cruise by any chance?

Not Disney cruise - we are on Carnival. It's our first time and we are going with my big brother and his family who are experienced cruisers. He chose a Carnival one for our first time with stops in Grand Cayman, Belize, Costa May and Cozumel. Can't wait!!

Oh boy --what a day --kids bought chips and I managed to stay away from them--just jumped up ran out to the store and bought a bunch of salad things --came home made up a big salad --enough to last the week and had a bowl for dinner .Going to need a bit more time to adj to all of this. I think my digestive system is rebeling.
Sandra I've never tried the spaghetti squash---Price Chopper ??? Dominion???
sounds good,,,yeah know I love fruits and vegies but I've always been tooo lazy to wash and cut everything up--I'm a real fast food and pastry junkie. Yet at the group home where I work on the weekends I spend hours preparing healthy stuff for them,,crazy eh. I'm wondering if the rec centre close to me has a treadmill?? I think I"ll call tomorrow and see.

Breakfast was a waffle and tea -1/2 banana

Lunch was a tuna sandwich/water

Dinner was a medium tossed salad /water/tea

Yes I skipped Tim's today--no promises on tomorrow

I think it's great that everyone is trying --:grouphug:

I lost 0.2 pounds this week. Not as much as I would have liked but I'll take it over gaining weight :) My body fat % went down so I'm happy with that as well!

Hi Mel ~ I bought the spaghetti squash at Price Chopper's on Glen Erin. YUM! Meadowvale Community Centre does have treadmills and lots of equipment. They have awesome fitness classes too! I used to teach step, hi/lo, toning and yoga there. Maybe I'll do that again when I feel more fit!

I did 30 minutes of treadmill tonight. I already feel lighter! I think I'll have a popsicle and go to bed!

Blessings, S

Is it too late for me to join?

I'd want to lose about 10 lbs... I want to start performing on cruise ships now that I've graduated school, but all cruise lines usually want their singers and dancers to be very fit and toned - which I'm not (and on that note, I'm in final callbacks right now to work with DCL, so any pixie dust you have left... keep me in your thoughts if you remember!). I'm 5'0 1/2 and about 120 lbs... I'd love to be 110-115!

Any recipes or tips on here would be great - thanks :goodvibes

(Guess that means it's time to put my Cinderella waffle iron away! ;))

Those sound like some really nice ports of call and you are going with your brother and his family which is really fun. You are going to have a blast!

It is never too late to join!

How exciting, DCL! I hope that you get the job and maybe I will get to see you perform on my cruise next December!

Welcome to all the new "losers"!

I just discovered something at Costco today....it's called Squirrely bread and it's completely flour free!! If you are like me and you must have your sandwiches (which I know I cannot live without!), then you must try this bread. I just had some, and albeit a little firmer, it tastes just like real bread, and the carb intake is decreased dramatically! The bread itself is made with oats and sprouts....it's pretty tasty!

So, Sundays are my designated cheat days on one term....I must do cardio workouts on this day if I cheat....so today, I woke up and had a bowl of cereal with skim milk and about a litre of water and a decaf tea.

For a snack, I had unsweetened apple sauce and fat free yoguart

For lunch (I work nights, so my lunch is usually supper for most people) I had a bbq steak with no bbq sauce, a baked potato with fat free sour cream (no butter), corn on the cob with no butter, and a tomato and basil salad, and then topped off with a glass of flavoured water. (This was my cheat day, don't forget).

Snack #2 was the squirrely bread with no butter, and REAL peanut butter and grapes, and of course, water.

Dinner - I haven't had it yet, but since my snack was pretty big, it will probably consist of yoguart and fruit.

I got to raid my MIL garden today and I scored some tomatos and some cucumbers....and they are so good....I cannot wait to have them in a salad or a sandwich (in the squirrelly bread!!).

Oh - my exercise today was a cross country run at a local wilderness center....it was so awesome....a very difficult run as we took the longest trail and the trail was very grassy, and hard to run through, plus it was a little harder to make out the shape of the earth, so unable to at times to see the dips, but overall, one of the best workouts that I ever had and cannot wait to do it again...we figure we ran about 4 km, and in that kind of terrain, it was probably one of the most difficult runs I have ever run....and I can run 5km usually with no problem.

Congrats to all the losers this week....keep up the good work and the motivation!

Joline

I am so proud of you all!

I love sandwiches too. One of my fav is;

two slices low cal bread
1 tsp. no fat mayo
1 slice low cal cheese [about 31 calories]
loads of lettuce
cucumber
red peppers cut into strips
tomato

It's pretty hardy and filling!

Last night I made a big veggie soup! YUM!

Have an awesome week all! Blessings, Sandra

That's what I have to do today. I cook up a huge pot and keep it in the fridge and heat up a cup when I'm hungry (or having something high in fat and calories for supper), that way I don't eat as much.

Good morning to all you ladies just starting your day!

I worked another 12-8 shift last night so I am halfway through my day right now.

I have been pretty good today. At work for my meal I had a Weight Watchers microwave meal. It was the Creamy Rigatoni with broccoli and diced chicken. Only 290 cal and I find it pretty tasty. Then around 7:30 right before I went home I had two toasted waffles w/ fibre. That was about 170 cal. I drank about a litre of water at work and I have a nice tall glass of water sitting on my desk here at home.

It is such a beautiful day out today that I just could not find an excuse not to go out for my morning walk so I walked around my neighborhood for 45 minutes. According to my Nike ipod sensor I walked 4.5 km at an average pace of 9:52 min/km and burned 446 cal.

Hope you all have a great day!

I am wondering too if you all mind if I jump on the band wagon with you? I need to lose 30 pounds and have been trying to find the motivation to do it, it seems like I do well for a few weeks and then fall apart, perhaps with having this it will help me to stay motivated.

I blew my knee out two years ago and really have not exercised much since having surgery and being on crutches for 9 months. I guess that should be my first move, to start walking at least every second day. So tonight when I get home, no matter how tired I am, I am going to go for a walk.

Welcome to our group! Newcomers are always welcome. Stick with us and if you ever start to feel unmotivated we will help get you back into the spirit of things!

Hi again. I was away for the weekend and did not know about the Sunday weigh in, so I did it this morning. 211:eek: Now another hard part. To get DH in on this too. Can someone tell me how much sugar is in a can of pop, and how many calories are in a bottle of beer. Just to remind DH how bad they are. He has to slow down his eating, he is up for seconds before I can even sit down to eat.

Just signed up for the sparks page....what a cool idea! Thanks for the link!

Not sure about the beer, but I ahve a can of pepsi infront of me and there is 41grams of sugar in the 355ml can of pepsi. 150 calories, also for the carb counters there is 41g of carbs....wow
