Why are the cruises to Canada (typically) so much more expensive than the ones to the Bahamas or Bermuda? Is it just a matter of supply and demand?

Are there any cruise lines outside the US that do less expensive Canadian (specifically NE) cruises?

Yes supply and demand. Not many cruises for DCL going to eastern Canada. I got a really great price on DCL in 2012 thou for eastern Canada.
Yes there are cheaper cruises out there.

I definitely agree with the supply and demand theory. Also - the prices on opening day were much better than they are now. I'm on the 10/2 sailing for the 5 nights and for two adults in 7A, the price has gone up more than $2000 since I booked opening day.

I'm guessing going out of NYC has something to do with it too. We did one 3 years ago and it was great. We used points so not sure what the real price was. Would just add that I wish Disney would have more from NYC and would love to see them go to Bermuda.

Any recommendations? I'm finding NCL, Celebrity etc to be just as expensive as Disney since they don't give discount for 3rd person.

I would check rccl out of north New Jersey. Rccl has a ship there all year long and rccl has good prices. They have a new ship sailing out of there. I been on one rccl cruise that left from New Jersey. My first and last cruise with rccl. Entertainment was terrible IMO. But maybe it will be better with the new ship.

Wow that is a huge jump. I'd love to take this cruise. Still trying to talk myself into the fact that 5 nights out of NY with Canada are worth the same as 7 nights out of PC with CC.

Thanks. My older daughter went to several of the shows on DCL but my younger daughter and I mainly went to the movies. I'll check it out.

I can't believe Alaskan cruises were 2.5 times HIGHER on DCL than the competition a few summers ago.

How much pixie dust can one snort? DCL has definitely created a unique niche to sustain the demand.

It really depends on the number of people cruising from my experience looking. I travel with my 15 year old and 10 year old. Some cruise lines are more expensive per person if you add a third person than if you just travel with two. Princess is the only line I've seen give an automatic discount for the third person like DCL does.

Since you mention Alaska specifically here are some totals for us based on the cheapest round trip sailing (because we are flexible with dates):
DCL Sept 4, 7 Nights, Standard Inside: $4589
NCL Aug 13, 7 Nights, Family Inside: $3108; Sep 4: $4180
Celebrity Aug 26, 7 Nights, Oceanview (no three person inside staterooms available): $4497
HAL Aug 21, 7 Nights, Interior: $4010
Princess Sep 3, 7 Nights, Interior: $2627

The only one that is half the price is Princess. However, given what their inside stateroom looks like with three people, there is no way we could make it work. For me the others are close enough in price that I'd choose DCL every time due to kid's clubs, no casino, etc.

Princess inside configuration for up to 4 people. With my older DD coming in at 2am there is no way!
