Canadian Buffoon European Vacation - 30/03 - Endings and Silver Linings

I strongly suggest you all invest in (if you haven't already) 60 inch or larger television screens... just for this TR.

Well, I was thinking maybe 15" laptop, but 60" flatscreen would work :smokin:

Your comment about the Disney savings program having problems took me by surprise, though.
What kind of problems? People losing their money???
Man, that would bite.

From what I've read here on the DIS, a lot of the Disney reservations castmembers aren't familiar with the DSA and don't know how to apply it to reservations. There are also a lot of restrictions about how you can use it (the old fine print) and what hoops you have to jump through to get the rewards. I'd rather have my savings somewhere that I can use it for whatever I want :confused3 and it's not going to be for Disney anytime soon!

Interesting. I think I'll hang on to my money.

:lmao:

"Hang on to my money" :rotfl2: I crack myself up!

Touring on crutches? That couldn't have been fun.

See? I'm looking out for you. Now you have something to look forward to.

Or not.

It definitely wasn't fun but I was in less pain and I actually was moving much faster. When we arrived in Santa Margherita the plan was to take a boat to Portofino. I had to stop every couple steps on the way to the boat to try and stop the pain, to no avail. My DH and my dad both said I should just go lay in the room. I was crying, 'I didn't come all the way to Italy to sit in the room'. I made it, not without a lot of tears though. Portofino was well worth the agony. I missed the walk along the Cinque Terre which was one of THE things I wanted to do(will have to go back one day), I had to sit in the grass in Pisa. There was NO WAY I was walking up to the top of the tower. Our next stop was Florence, that's when I finally thought of getting crutches. Within a few days, while touring Tuscany and staying at a working farm, the pain started easing up quite a bit. By the time we got to Rome, I was only in a little pain. Fast forward to 2012, it happened again. This time it lasted more than 3 months! When it was at its worst was for my DD's college graduation in Boston:( Made for a tough couple days of festivities.

Oh and yes I am looking forward:)

You beat me to it!
I wanted to say that you've always been a little off...

Shucks. And I was so looking forward to it.

Of course I beat you to it. :rotfl: This girl is smart enough to know when insults are coming her way. :rotfl2: Too bad for you!

:lmao: If I'd known that, I would've made it harder!

So I'm at the hospital and this flying girl comes across a very small tv screen and it's on mute. And I go "huh? Is she in Venice?"

And I'm like WT H? Is that MY clock? (Yes, I've now claimed the clock as my prize for finding it. :lmao: - you offered no other prizes for me.)

And I take off the mute and they say this flying angel is going down to the square. And I literally say out loud "don't go down to the damn square. Who knows what's going to happen to you there" My father says "What are you talking about? What is so funny?". Never mind. I mean really, how can I explain flying angel Venice girls, clock towers, robot murders and hangings in some kind of succinct manner? :lmao:

I live in my head, can you tell? ;)

(I just gave you a freebie. Thank me later. :surfweb:)

I've seen those sightseeing Toronto busses.
Considering you can see the CN tower from... well... everywhere, what do you need a bus for?

Yes, everywhere. Even from my terrace. But not through my dryer vent. :lmao:

Tab?
Screen?
Dohickey?
Thingamajig?
Whatchamacallit?

Dohickey. Oh man. Did you think about how to spell it?

I knew I should've included a picture of some dog do-do or something.
Just on the chance that you'd pick that one to declare your love for.

Do it. Add to my fun. :thumbsup2

I was close.

Yeah, so close. :3dglasses

Thanks for making me laugh and smile. Maybe I'll go over to Juan Pablo's thread and see if they have missed me. :scratchin :stir: :goodvibes

Trust me when I say, "I know just how you feel."

I made it, not without a lot of tears though.

Ouch! Geez, I feel bad for you.

Portofino was well worth the agony. I missed the walk along the Cinque Terre which was one of THE things I wanted to do(will have to go back one day),

Aha! Motivation!

Like you need motivation to go to Italy, right?

I had to sit in the grass in Pisa. There was NO WAY I was walking up to the top of the tower.

Ah, you probably didn't miss much.
I hear the thing isn't even straight.

;)

Our next stop was Florence, that's when I finally thought of getting crutches.

You mean you weren't on crutches all that time????:scared1:

Within a few days, while touring Tuscany and staying at a working farm, the pain started easing up quite a bit.

Back pain easing up... at a working farm...

By the time we got to Rome, I was only in a little pain. Fast forward to 2012, it happened again. This time it lasted more than 3 months! When it was at its worst was for my DD's college graduation in Boston:( Made for a tough couple days of festivities.

Oh, no!
Man, back pain is a real pain in the... but you already know that.

Hey! Look! It's Susan!

Oh and yes I am looking forward:)

Good!

Of course I beat you to it. This girl is smart enough to know when insults are coming her way. Too bad for you!

A silent tear rolls down Ponzi's cheek.

I stubbed my toe. That's why.

That seems fair.

You just did!:rotfl2:

I live in my head, can you tell?

I used to live in my head.
I didn't like it.
Too much empty space.

So I moved out.

Don't miss it...

much.

(I just gave you a freebie. Thank me later. )

Nah. Too easy. I went in the opposite direction instead.

Yes, everywhere. Even from my terrace. But not through my dryer vent.

The second most visited Toronto landmark.
The Lint Tunnel.

I get goose bumps just thinking about it.

Dohickey. Oh man. Did you think about how to spell it?

Briefly. Then threw caution to the wind and just put it out there.

I knew I should've included a picture of some dog do-do or something.

Okay. But it has to be Italian ordure... You can tell from the accent.

Thanks for making me laugh and smile. Maybe I'll go over to Juan Pablo's thread and see if they have missed me. :scratchin :stir: :goodvibes

Glad I could.
I think a lot of people are holding their collective breaths right now over there.

Hi, I have been lurking here for a while but thought I should say I am loving the trip report, it is making me reconsider our next trip. Europe really isn't much further than California is it? :rolleyes1

Welcome Pluplo! Thanks for chiming in! :)

You're right, Venice isn't that much farther than California.
If you put your little finger on Kiwiland on a globe, you can easily reach over and put your thumb on Italy.
If the globe's small enough.

It's only twice as far from New Zealand to Italy as it is to Cali.
When you consider that Mars (at its closest) is five thousand times farther than California... Well, it hardly seems worth not going now doesn't it?

To Italy I mean....
You might have to wait a bit for roundtrip airfare costs to Mars to come down.

Pkondz,

In your opinion, what are the best tasting Girl Scout cookies? Everyone else?

I would like to see what the general consensus is versus what we were told. ;)

Thin Mints, Samoas, and Tagalongs. I am protesting because they got rid of the lemon sandwich cookies a couple of years ago.

Thin Mints! Although I don't know if I ever had any other ones........ hmmm

Oh, boy. Are you ever asking the wrong dude.
I don't recall ever eating Girl Scout cookies.
And were they always called Girl Scouts? In Canada they're called Girl Guides.

Anyway, no Girl Guide/Scout has ever come a knocking to sell me cookies.

Pity really. Because I'd probably buy her entire stash.

So I looked up the different cookies.
If I were given a choice, I'd probably pick the Thin Mints.

Although it was a tough call between the Thin Mints and the Thanks-A-Lot or Lemonades.

Samoas no question!!! Don't even buy any of the others anymore.

My last job ended in September. I haven't been looking very hard. I apply to about one job a month. Not very motivated. DH still has a job. And he has now written a graphic novel (comic book), it's a horror story. He has booked nine comic book conventions this year. We are hoping this generates some income.
So obviously no big trips planned this year. We hope to make it down to Kings Island this summer when my step son is here.

pkondz does not do coconut.

Ever.

Does he have them printed already?
I'd be interested in buying one.
(Would I be his first sale???)

Good chance I'll be in Cleveland early July....
Just sayin'....

I'm really thinking this is a travesty that needs to be corrected asap. Are you feeling up to a Pembina trial run? ;)

If you're saying the cookies are worth a tank of gas... then yes. Of course.

Thin Mints always! Buy an even dozen (although they used to be a lot cheaper), and keep them in the freezer. Still come out tasting good.

I used to go door to door - about 45 years ago when I sold them. Nowadays I usually see them outside our local grocery store or have parents corner me at work. Haven't heard from anyone this year yet, but trying to get in swimsuit shape anyway for our trip.

Jill, my absolute favorite are Tagalongs aka Peanut Butter Patties. I do like thin mints and samoas as well though. The names of the cookies are dependent on which of two bakeries make them, Little Brownie Bakers or ABC Bakers.

Thin Mints! Although I don't know if I ever had any other ones........ hmmm

Another vote for Thin Mints! It looks like they are going to be the thread winner!

Carrie, it's so good to hear from you! When I was a brownie, the level before you become a Girl Scout, my absolute favorite were the Samoas. My favorite has changed throughout the years. I hope your DH has great success with his graphic novel!

You are so right! Thin Mints out of the freezer are awesome! That's my favorite way to eat them. With DD a Daisy(kindergarten) I'm afraid the bulk of the selling fell to me. We did have a sale outside of a grocery store on Saturday and it went pretty well. I think 75 boxes were sold in three hours.

If you're saying the cookies are worth a tank of gas... then yes. Of course.

Hold up.....gas? Since when do huskies pulling a sled require a tank of gas? Food certainly, I was going to include a box of shortbread cookies for them. ;)

Well, a box wouldn't be worth a tank of gas, but a few boxes might be, especially for the experience. I bet Elle and Kaye and Ruby might enjoy the novelty of them and they truly do taste good. Not gourmet, but good.

If I don't go this route, maybe I can send them to you and you can swallow the cookie dust from the US cootie decontamination process and when they arrive shortly before Christmas 2014. I like living life on the edge though so I can just send them to you the normal route. You just let me know.

To be honest, it's a bit of a letdown that I won't have to purchase 100 pounds of dry ice and be flagged by Homeland Security. ;)

You need to come to Colorado and sell outside our pot shops.... You would make a killing!

I did see a troop set up in front of one here a couple of weeks ago...somehow I don't think the state council approved. :)

another vote for the mints!!! I also love the peanut butter cookies, (both the sandwich ones and the patties).
