2022/2023 Concacaf Nations League and why it should matter to Americans/Canadians. The CNL will have it’s second edition of the tournament starting in June. The draw for the tournament will be on April 4th. The tournament will feature the USMNT (current champion) and the CANMNT (the up and coming rival). Both teams will play the top teams in the league (league A). Why should you care? Several reasons. First this an official FIFA sanctioned tournament. Why does this matter? Players have to be released from their clubs for this tournament (just like WCQ). Duel nationals (under specific circumstances) can be capped tied in these games. Your world ranking can go up in this tournament. For those who like promotion and relegation, it exists in this tournament. There are home and away matches for each team in the league. Why does this matter? Depending where the USA and Canada put their matches (assuming fans will be in the stands), those cities may have an economic boom from the tourists away fans as well as locals. This tournament will also act as the qualifiers for the Concacaf Gold Cup. With more fans following the USMNT and CANMNT this year, we might see the best games yet between our two countries. This tournament also acts as a partial preparation for the 2022 World Cup in November, and helps those who have jumped on supporting their country’s team to see them further compete in meaningful matches this summer and later next year prior to Gold Cup 2023. The draw is on Monday. Check your local listings. The tournament will be a key element of preparation for the USA’s and Canada’s campaigns in the upcoming FIFA World Cup. Matches will start this June. The draw results will be posted in the thread.

In the USA, CBS Sports/Paramount Plus and Univision/Unimas/TUDN hold the rights for USMNT games.

In Canada, OneSoccer hold the rights to the CanMNT matches but that could change if a deal with Sportsnet/TSN/RDS is reached. Details on a TV deal might be announced Monday.

The draw may be streamed on Concacaf’s YouTube page but I’m not sure yet. It doesn’t look like it will be on TV here in the USA which is a shame since the FIFA draw is.

With the USA and Canada in League A, it looks to be a great tournament kicking off in June.
