Today's Topic (Sun, 5/25) - 3 geeky/nerdy things you're grateful for

🤣🤣 I thought I read Greek pride day 🤣🤣🤣🤣 not Geek 🤣🤣🤣😳🤣

I really should do towels I have a towel obsession - need a towel I got you covered
Need a junk towel what size do you need I have you covered you need 10 of them no problem got you covered you need them in different sizes again no problem gotcha covered oh you need beach towels you need junk beach towels got you covered when I say I have a towel obsession I’m not kidding it’s really out of hand and let me tell you why Kohl’s cash because if I can’t find something to spend it on I buy towels
I have cute dish towels for every holiday even the small ones I mean holiday is the small holidays and I don’t mean like one or two I mean like 20
I have countless sets a bath towels with matching hand towels
I have decorative hand towels you know the kind that you look at and don’t touch
I have decorative kitchen towels
I probably have 50 of this little kitchen towels that you washed dishes with
I love coordinating my kitchen towels with the holidays I have kitchen towels for my moods - I want to do animals I’ve got animals / I want to do fun beachy summer I’ve got that too / I wanna do flowers covered got them
You need green towels in your bathroom got them wanna go with blue got them the only color I don’t have is white because it never stays white so I don’t buy white but otherwise I got you covered
Any beach towels covered you want Disney ones covered you want big fluffy floral ones again covered
You need ones to bathe the dog in guess what? Covered !!!
I just recently cleaned out a whole bunch of junk towels and got rid of them because I was just being overwhelmed with them

I’m very grateful for my towels because I do like decorating with them and I just don’t like going into Kohl’s because they always have such cute kitchen dolls and every time I go into Walmart which thankfully isn’t very often I end up purchasing a couple dish towels because they also have really cute dish towels I need a 12 step program🤣🤣🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️ I’ve even learned how to fold towels like they do on the Disney cruise ships so I can store them in baskets that gives me more space to buy more towels I’m not sure if that’s a good thing or not🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

Happy Sunday Everyone

#1 - Computer Nerds - I know one and he’s great to help with computer issues at work and whenever I have an iPhone question,

#2 - Star Wars Nerds - I know one (same guy as above) and when I was watching all the Star Wars everything in chronological order, he was a great person for me to get clarity on certain things I didn’t understand.

#3 - Harry Potter Nerds - I consider myself one, and I’m grateful for other HP Nerds so I can talk with them about the movies, since I have no one in my family that watches Harry Potter. I have a few patients that come in that are Harry Potter nerds and we always have fun catching up about Harry Potter stuff. I did tell my family that when it’s time for us to go to Universal that they need to watch the Harry Potter movies with me so they know what the heck they’re looking at. DH and I went to Universal in 2019, and my DH did a good job, trying to be engaged in the Harry Potter areas, but since I couldn’t talk to him about anything, it wasn’t as fun as it could’ve been if you knew what things were. DD21 has never been to Universal and now that Epic Universe opened she’s showing an interest, so hopefully we’ll go sometime after she graduates from grad school, and by that time all the excitement about Epic Universe should be died down by then (hopefully - that’ll be in 3 years)

3 Geeky or Nerdy Things I'm Grateful For:

My husband. Definitely a geek/nerd. He wore a pocket protector all through high school, and used a slide rule. He rode his bike to school. He'd walk the halls with his briefcase in one hand, trumpet case in the other. He said for years he couldn't figure out why the other kids would taunt him. He has worked multiple jobs for decades to keep the roof over our heads, food in our bellies, Disney on our vacation list. He's funny and quirky and a HUGE science geek and the smartest person I know (degrees in chemistry, physics, and biophysics), and can out-Sheldon Sheldon. He is a great father and loves me. SO he's the major geeky/nerdy thing I am grateful for.

Kennedy Space Center. Pretty much my favorite "non-Disney" trip. I'm still in awe of what was accomplished as a country, with far, far less computing power than what you all have in your pockets from your phone. Definitely one of the biggest achievements in USA history.

Math. I love math, as long as it's only thru algebra 1. However, that's about all I need for everyday living. I love how the rules don't change, how if you know the rules you can figure out the pieces and solve the puzzle. I guess that makes me a nerd, too!

Hugs dear WDWEPCOT, I read it the same way.

Towels will always make me smile to think of my charge nurse friend, J. I gave her a multicolor smiley face on yellow background beach towel for her birthday. She brightens up this often dismal facility with faith and cheer.

What a blessing God will it will be later this year for me to use a bath towel to dry off after a shower.

Kitchen towels can have fun seasonal designs or characters on them. Dad and I have one Mickey and Minnie kitchen towel.

Agreeing with @slo on the Harry Potter fandom! - I watch the Super Carlin Brothers YouTube channel and listen to their Through the Griffin Door podcast. The whole series is just so much fun to analyze!

Star Wars / Star Trek - I grew up with both of these franchises, and feel like I internalized a lot of positive values from them.

And I'm also with @leebee on mathematics! Howie Hua had a fun math channel to follow if you're on Instagram. :teacher:

Music nerds- so many of my geeky daydreams involve people from my past getting acquainted with classical and to a lesser degree, Broadway, the way I have loved and embraced it so much of my life and not seeing it as music geeks.

Nature and wildlife geeks- Yesterday, I was in my backyard with Merlin going when I saw a bird that was something I associate with Mexico and the Caribbean. I was hoping it would make some kind of noise so it could be IDd. It did and it turned out to be a Swallow Tailed Kite, which the app flagged as uncommon for our area. Most people wouldn’t care but to me it’s exciting.

Astronomy- Not sure which angles to take on it, but I love all of the neat events, scientific discoveries/exploration, and just stargazing in general. Space geeks!

OH MY🤯🤯🤯..hope Kroger isn't out of tater tots for geeks

Grateful that South Salem high School had a drama dept that graduated a student who went on to elevate being geeky to a art form with unicorns, student elections....and tater tots... Goodwill is next to our Kroger so going to find a plush unicorn 🦄 🦄 🦄 and have a DYNAMITE of a party 🥳 🥳🥳

For party favors I will pull out my large box of KROFFT 70s TV Saturday morning programming... lunch boxes, books, puzzle and puppets and play the KROFFT super show drum set...oh.. wait when we left Oregon I had to sell it..my wife said "your not that geeky"

And every week the neighbors bonafide my geekness..."how can a 70 year old man be so focused on Disneyland??"

Combining music and HP nerdiness story: my daughter went to a college that was known for its music and theatre departments. (She was theatre) She was friends with a music major who told her that the music majors called non-music majors Muggles. She said, “Then I must be a Squib because my parents were both music majors and I’m not!”

I am a HP nerd, but only for the books. In fact, I’m a book nerd and have avoided many movies made from books that I love.

My DH is the computer nerd in the family. I probably wouldn’t even be on this site if he hadn’t been around to help me with all things computer years ago. Very grateful for that!

I love looking things up, some are very geeky, like word origins. I think that’s one of the reasons I love the Merlin app; being able to look up birdsong immediately. One of the CMs at AK recommended an app where I could do the same thing with plants, by taking pictures, but unfortunately I didn’t make a note about it.

Good Monday Morning Everyone and Prayers for all those who have lost military family members

#1 - Red - The blood in my veins that sustains my life.

#2 - White - Eggs, which I’m going to eat for breakfast soon

#3 - Blue - The beautiful blue sky that we have right now. It’s a beautiful morning here.

Red - same as SLO my blood 🩸 having lost a bunch of it once ( long story ) I’m very grateful for it and my knowledge now about how much you need and what happens to you when you get below that number

White - white sand beaches - y’all knew I would say beaches 🤣🤣 but I do enjoy and are so grateful for a day at the beach plus I get to do my blue item

Blue - beautiful blue waters - like oceans I love being on a cruise ship 🚢 and just watching the ocean 🌊 it’s so beautiful

Good morning friends. My heartfelt extra thanks to and prayers for all those who have and are currently serving and their families.

Dad drives a red car that I am so grateful by my faith belief God uses to keep him safe on the road. The same with my white car when dad (or God willing I one day) drive it.

Memories of Champ who was mostly white.

Blue, I am wearing a light blue T shirt right now. Dodger blue dad enjoys which makes me happy. God's blue sky, of course, too!

Red - my red checked heated blanket, which is going back into storage now for the summer months but has been a life saver over the winter.

White - my cat who is white (and black) who drives me crazy yet keeps me company every day.

Blue - like Slo and WDWEPCOT, I'd go for blue skies and blue waters. There's nothing more beautiful, and the two together are perfect.

Red- the broth in the bouillabaisse I had for lunch today. It was WONDERFUL.
White- my sister's Christmas tree, which she leaves up and lit all year round (I'm looking at it right now... white tree, colored lights, like something out of a fairy house).
Blue- My light blue "It's good to be home" oversized Disney sweatshirt.
