Canada Le Cellier, WHAT is the Big Deal?

Easy-

Le Cellier's steak was better than Flying Fish, Citricos, and Yachtsman for just 1 TS vs 2 TS last week.

we were there on thurs May 7. This was easily the best meal we had during the entire trip. I had a totally opposite experience from the original poster, out steak was amazing, soft, didn't need a knife, and very tasty. Very good, and its on the top of our list to go next visit. LOVED IT!!!

to those who had complaints about the steak... did you complain? if so, what happened? if not, why not?

Personally, if I had a steak that was really grizzly, I would complain and ask for a new one.

thanks for all the posts. we are going in November. Always wanted to try it. So I will post my opinion when we get back :cool2:

Steak, one credit on plan, and very small, thus making it difficult to book, and difficult to book = great for many people.

I am not a fan. Its fine, but there are many better places to eat at Disney for one credit on the dining plan.

Service is rushed as they need to turn over those tables quickly. Tables are very close together, and there is no natural light--I find it depressing and too dark.

Its has been incredibly popular for years and its popularity is not likely to wane.

My family and I ate there last summer. The food and the service were just fine, but nothing great. It sounds odd, but I think a really great steak is better served without all the mushrooms etc.

My mom didn't like it because it was so cramped! There was a bouncing toddler right next to her and he kept bumping into her. The sardine like seating accommodations exacerbated the bumping, obviously. It really put a damper on her enjoyment of the restaurant.

My sister wanted to go again this summer, but I couldn't get her a reservation. The rest of us didn't want to go this year. We (the four of us in our room) are on the QSDP and we are paying OOP using our TIW card for the following:
Jiko on June 29
Kona on July 1
LTT (lunch) on July 4th

There are steaks or pot roast on all of those menus. I don't think we'll go hungry for steak! And I do want to try the PM for their ribeye at dinner. Has anyone had that there?

We frequently stay at CSR and love the PM, but I wouldn't advise making a special trip just for the rib eye. The quality is definitely not consistent.

When it's good, it's a good supper, but it's hit or miss. Some nights we ask at the grill how the steak is tonight and are told to order something else. It can be fatty or lots of gristle, other times really good and we order it. I find that the CM's cooking there will give you honest feedback.

That said, even when it's good it's small. It's a CS after all, you won't get a full fledged dinner steak, sorta thin. But definitley a good deal with a potato, grilled veggies, steak, drink, and dessert for a CS credit on the DDP.

Don't even get me started on Cirticos, but that's probably another thread...... :rolleyes1

Loved our Le Cellier meal last week, have eaten there 5 times in the past year and all have been very good!:goodvibes

IN one of the cases where 2 of our steaks were very over cooked (ordered medium rare and arrived grey all the way through) we did not ask for them to be redone because we were in a group of 8 people and it was lunch so we didn't want to slow others down. The second of our bad cases I got a NY strip that was about 80% fat and gristle. In that case I didn't get it remade either because we had already waited an hour past our ADR time of 5 plus service had been slow so we were almost 2 hours into the meal when our steaks arrived (no apps either) and still were figuring on at least 30-45 more minutes to do dessert and bill. We just weren't willing to wait and deal with it anymore. In both cases we did tell the server but they didn't really seem to care at all.

I'm not a big fan of returning my food as well, I've heard too many bad things about what can happen in the kitchen when you send something back. (Not Disney kitchens just eating out in general) If I had experienced your back luck at Le Cellier I would not be a fan either.

I have been trying to figure this out too- I think a PP hit the nail on the head, they have good steaks and are only 1 TS credit on the dining plan. I have had lunch which was fine and I will try to get dinner to see what the fuss is about- though I have to say some of the photos of the steaks have looked pretty gross- and I LOVE a good steak!

We've eaten at LC twice and won't be back any time soon. Our first meal, lunch, was pretty good. I think it was in Sept. 05. Next time was Sept. 06 or 07 (can't remember which). This time was for dinner. It wasn't very good. I had steak and my DM had a shrimp pasta dish. I don't remember much about my steak so it was probably pretty good (filet). My mom's pasta was too spicy. Not mentioned on the menu.

The tables were way too close together. There was food on the floor (mostly fries). Our server was pretty bad. My DM ordered a glass of wine (one of the few glasses she orders while at WDW). After our appetizer (when this was inc. in DDP).was served we asked mentioned to our server that he hadn't brought the wine. He said something like "Oh, I thought you would want it with your meal" What??? Really???? My mom went ahead and cancelled it.

Overall it was just not a great experience. Definitely not worth waking up before 4 a.m. (on the West Coast) to get an ADR. Give me Kona or Raglan Road anyday. Last year we ate at Tutto Italia and we would defintely return there. I want to try those fried dessert pastry thingys. :goodvibes

DH & I LOVE IT!!! I would go for the Pretzel Bread and Cheese Soup alone!

I agree the steak is not that good, but all other meals we have had have been EXCELLENT!!!!

Subbing in. We were lucky enough to get a dinner and lunch reservation for our trip in two weeks! We have never been but I have been drooling over some of the great reports I have read. I will let you know how it goes but I am anticipating two super meals!! :cloud9:

Peter Luger's or Morton's it is not.

I agree that two of the major draws are the 1TS and the lack of ressies b/c of size. We've eaten there several times when on the DDP- usually with other adults - our meals have always included wine (more than a glass or two :rolleyes1) and I found the food to be okay (opinion may have been tainted by the grapes ;)). I, personally, would not shell OOP funds to eat there. JMO.

The best steak I have had on property is at Jiko (haven't been to Shula's). Great filet and great service on the three occasions we have eaten there.

One credit steak house on the dining plan inside a theme park. Enough said. (While reasonably popular, Le Cellier was not practically inaccessible prior to the dining plan)

I never order steak anywhere and don't even think the pretzel bread and cheese soup are worth breaking one's back to get a reservation here. But there are many who think otherwise.

I have never eaten at Le Cellier. I still want to try it because people's tastes are so different. I prefer to make up my own mind about things. If we don't like it, then we don't go again.

Managed to get a dinner ADR for September, but I think that was because of the IPO at the Poly. Pretty sweet to have your ADRs done for you(first time that I've booked Club level)!

We have only been for lunch but are going for dinner in Sept. Both my DH and I loved the lunch we had, steak was cooked perfectly and the Cheddar soup and the pretzel bread sticks are to die for, I would go just for them. :goodvibes

We had lunch at Le Cellier last September and the best part was the soup! It really is quite good but definitely not a reason to get all worked up over the place. The fillet I had was not well seasoned. I asked for it without the mushroom sauce, apparently they don't bother with salt or pepper on the meat itself and just rely on smothering it in sauce. DH had the NY Strip, also no seasoning on the meat! Fluke? Maybe. We won't be going back though.

We wont be going back either. The food was mediocre, and LOADED with salt. I couldnt even finish my dinner because it was so salty. This place is so over hyped its crazy! I felt like i was eating in a dungeon. (I know its supposed to be "the cellar" but come on.. some light please??) I'm just glad i have realized this and won't waste any time trying to get a reservation.. i will let everyone else fight over them.. maybe they see something special about this place that i don't?
