Can your employer tell you to remove...

I don't get it. Why are you sighing?
Probably because she can't figure out what you are trying to say.

I know I can't. Not for lack of trying - read each of the posts several times. Just cannot figure out what you are attempting to get across.

Cuz I dont get what youre doing.

Maybe because I'm not really "doing" anything. I was just replying to what you said. I thought I did it in a nice way. But instead of replying back you're shrugging and sighing and acting passive-aggressive.

wow- i don't think op is gonna tell! (...but i'm subbing just in case)
No, she's not.

I still don't know what the purpose is of starting a thread about a bumper sticker and knowing people will want to know what it says and then not telling.

If you don't want to talk about it, then why start a thread about it?

Whatever. I give up.

Okay. Fair enough. I was trying to say it in a general way and not single anyone out. My point is that lately on these boards some people are so quick to jump in and call disagreement "gang mentality". This stifles discussion and dissent because people don't want to be labeled bullies. It's its own form of gang mentality. It's going way overboard to throw it into discussions for no reason and strikes me as just an attempt to make the point over and over again.

I didn't even address my initial post to you, so I hope you're not implying me. You jumped in and replied to me first, which is great, no problem. But please don't try to make it seem with the sighs and shrugs and rolling eyes that I was just picking a fight with you.

Here's another *sigh* for you.

What are you talking about????? :confused3 :confused3 :confused3

You quoted me and bolded a portion. I said I hoped you weren't directing that at me. I replied to someone else and you jumped in. There's nothing wrong with that, but I certainly wasn't ganging up on you.

I don't know how else to say this.

She wasn't directing anything at you. She was referring to an ongoing feud that (to the best of my knowledge) has nothing to do with you.

I think we should all let it go and leave the OP to play "I've got a secret" by herself.

I've read this entire thread with more than a bit of amusement, and I agree with CathrynRose (Wow - Did I actually say that? ;) ) :rotfl:

Back to the bumper sticker issue: I am curious if it is an "official" bumper sticker of a particular politician or political party, or if it is a made up bumper sticker. Sometimes those get really rough.

It kinda does make an difference in the legal aspect.

And I didnt say I didnt want her to respond - I agreed she could be ganged up on if she did.

How in the world does it make any difference on the legal sense? As knowledgeable posters have tirelessly repeated over and over again - there is absolutely NO freedom of speech rights on private property. It doesn't matter what the bumper sticker says, it doesn't matter if it is cute, disrespectful, humorous, or nasty - the owner of the driveway has absolute rights to decide what is parked there or not.

If the owner doesn't like the bumper sticker - that is the only thing that matters. He has absolute right to ask the employee to park elsewhere if the bumper sticker remains on her car.

Why is everyone so mad that the OP doesn't want to say what the sticker says?
She was pretty clear in the first post that it was nothing scandelous.
The point is she shouldn't be judged for being right or wrong for the political party she supports either way.
I think it's very cowardly of the boss to have an issue with it either way.

I really don't get the hostility, "walk your sorry but to work", what kind of thing is that to say?

You may think it cowardly of the boss to have an issue with it, but it is still his right. It really doesn't matter what you or anybody thinks. He, and only he dictates what his company's image portrays. If he doesn't like the message and if asked, then the employee should and must park on the public street, where freedom of speech rights are guaranteed.

I'm a lurker, so I should just keep my mouth shut and keep lurking *but* my husband had a similiar situation. My DH owns his own business, owns the building, land, driveway etc and has three employees that he has hired. Dh has customers coming and going all day long. One employee had a political bumper sticker(well, more like 5) on their car and he asked them to please park it in the street. It had nothing to do with my DH's political views,he doesn't even pay too much attention to politics, but the perception of his costumers. If a customer is voting for X, but sees a car representing my DH's business with a Y sticker on an employee's car in the drive-way, that just may make the customer move his business elsewhere. That's money out of his business, out of our family and out of the employees pockets. DH's employee was fine with the request and parked her car in the street. If the business loses $$$, then the employee will be hurt eventually anyway. My husband hired these people, If he feels that they don't care enough for the business and cause potential harm to the profit of that business, well he can also let them go. It had nothing to do with political views, but the $$ bottom line. Back to lurking.

:thumbsup2 This needs repeated. Owners of the property have absolute rights in what is on their property.

I think you're exactly right. Good post! OP can remove the sticker and park in a more convenient place on site, or keep it, and park off site.
:thumbsup2 Exactly

It always amazes me how these threads get so long and the OP will not answer a simple question. Does it give them some power trip? I know but I am not telling just because you want to know? I haven't read the whole thread but my DH is in a position to hire and fire people so I asked him. He said it is a freedom of speech issue but there are many ways to fire an employee without using the bumper sticker as a reason.

I do think it matters what the bumper sticker says, and if the OP does not wish to share she doesn't have too. It just gives the impression that it does say something offensive.
If your husband works for the government or deals with lots of government contracts, then you are correct. It is a freedom of speech issue.

If it is a privately owned company on private property - then no. There is no freedom of speech rights on private property. Your husband would need to refresh his knowledge of the constitution.

It really doesn't matter what the bumper sticker says or whether or not the OP tells what it says.

It makes absolutely no difference. If the property owner doesn't like it, he has the right to ask it to be removed from his property.

Let's revisit this again on a more personal level.

Let us imagine the OP is a McCain supporter. She volunteers for his campaign, putting in lots of hours helping to get him re-elected.

She comes home and finds a whole bunch of these in her front yard:

They were put there by her neighbors, staunch Obama supporters.

By some of your arguments, the OP would not be allowed to remove the signs from her property because it would infringe on the freedom of speech of the neighbors.

But that is not correct, right? The OP would have every right to remove the signs from her property because it is her private property. The neighbors have no freedom of speech rights on the OP's front lawn.

Same thing with the OP's boss's driveway.

His property, his message. He has just as much right to remove what is offensive to him off his property.

Just as the OP's neighbors have no rights on her property, the employee has no rights on the employer's property, unless it is a governmental business or has government contracts which stipulate such conditions.

If MY neighbors put those on MY lawn, I'd have to put one of THESE right along with them...

:lmao:

The OP didn't ask if people thought her bumper sticker was appropriate or not, she asked if it was legal for him to ask her to move her car from the driveway. Look how much heat this thread has just generated by her NOT posting it. :duck:

CPT Tripss isn't very smart!

True!

Mods: (who I know are monitoring this thread by now,) I did not write that!!! . . .umm, BTW, since you're here, :rolleyes1 I heard that the Mods & the Tag Fairy like flowers & chocolate? :flower3: :flower3:
