Someone said you could before 10 am, but gave no more details.

Does anyone have details?

Can you go in at rope drop?
What about EMH's?
Is the line long to get in?
Do they only let so many in at a time, or do you just meander in at free will?

or the other option is if I can't get a fp for lunch, because we are at the Dolphin, how long is the line wait to get in? What time do you need to get in?

Unfortunately the answer is no.

You can get in line to wait for the restaurant to open for lunch at 10:00 am. It does not open until 11:00.

No, you cannot go inside the restaurant and look around, at all, unless you are eating there (have a reservation, a lunch fast pass, or you waited in line at lunch opening and got a table).
EMH's-makes no difference
Rope drop-no, you still can't go inside. You can go LOOK at the outside and sometimes there is even a Photopass photographer who will take your picture in front of the mountains to the castle.

Really doesn't matter where you are staying....you have to get into Magic Kingdom and I would advise getting in line around 10:00-10:30. It just depends how crowded the park is already that day. If you can get in line around 10:00 and there are only a few people ahead of you, you can expect to wait about 30 minutes to get a table.

There is a line to get in, but if you go for early lunch it doesn't take that long. The food's actually really good and not too expensive for lunch. I think they open at 10:30 so try to be nearby. If the line isn't past the end of the bridge it shouldn't take too long.

The line does move quickly as the seating capacity is immense, about 550 people.

At lunch (key point here, lunch hours only) BOG is just like all other QS meals. You stand in line, you order your food, you go sit down wherever you want. The difference is you do not have to take your food to the table. They will bring it to you.

The lines for BOG are longer than for your typical QS meals but you can eat if you can stand in the line. The later you go in to service the shorter the line, usually. Though most of the time you are not in line more than 30 min.

Thanks everyone. Couldn't seem to get a good response on the restaurant disboards. I guess they are all in a frenzy over the fp.

I had heard when it first opened the lines were as long as 5 hrs. I thought it was still an hour to 3 hours still. btw I was planning on going to eat there for lunch, but my husband had said not at those waits. So this makes my day!

So September lines might be shorter then 30 minutes?

Does everyone in the party have to wait in line or can they be close by?

And you can stay in the restaurant as long as you like after you finish your lunch. We spent a good half hour walking around each of the dining rooms and taking pictures of all the amazing decorations. Just try not to get people eating in your shots as a courtesy. You have to check out the west wing or try and eat lunch there. Amazing! If only the Beast was there at lunch for meet & greet.:lovestruc :lovestruc:lovestruc

I have never waited longer than 20 minutes to get into BoG for lunch (on several occasions including right after it opened), no way I have ever waited an hour, much less 5 hours.

On an unrelated note, for dinner, when you make ADR's, can you choose which room you eat in?

Not when you are making the ADR itself as far as know.

You can always request it once you arrive and check in at the podium... but - how long you will have to wait to be seated will depend on where within the restaurant the tables are turning over.

No.

And there has been mixed reports as to if they allow you to make a request when you check in. So you can ask, but don't get any hopes up.

Just a piece of trivia to share with OP. Before BoG officially opened, it was open for viewing, with CMs here and there to guide you. There was a line on the left side of the bridge for touring, and a line on the right for CS lunch. On select days, they opened the reservations booth on the other end of the bridge, and took same-day dinner reservations. In my 11 days at WDW, I had a tour, then I had lunch one day, and dinner on another day. It was super! This was early November, 2012.

Last September they did allow guests to enter the lobby area before opening to get a glance inside the ballroom dining room. The restrooms were also open. Not sure if they still do this or not.

I'm not sure if they allow it everyday, but they do sometimes let Guests inside before opening for the day,BUT you are only allowed into the "lobby area" up to a "rope" that is just before the Ballroom,so you only get to see one of the 3 Dining Rooms and you don't even get to "enter" it,but it is still fun especially for a Guest who has never seen any of BoG.:)

Or you posed a question at 6am, had multiple responses, with the likelihood of more coming as the day progressed, but needed to post here at 8:50am.

My question is, who is in the frenzy??? :thumbsup2

I was wondering if anyone would respond to that...you got a smile out of me.:)

Is there a minimum amount of food you have to get to go in at lunch? We are a group of nine people going in September and are trying to limit our spending on food and extras. We are planning on bringing snacks and PB&J type stuff with us into the parks to avoid buying meals there. But, I am sure we will want to go inside BOG, too. I would not pull out our packed lunches in there, but wonder if we would have to buy food in there during the QS lunch hours or can we wait in line or FP it just to go in and look around and take pics???

I don't think you can wait in line just to go in and look around. You have to go through the kiosks where you order & pay before you get into the actual dining areas. It would be kind of weird to walk by the kiosks to tell them you're just browsing.

I don't think there's any minimum order, you could take a look at the menu and see if there's something small/inexpensive you could order.:earsboy:

My DD and I usually go around 1:30 or 1:45, toward the end of the lunch rush. We usually eat lunch around 11:00 at Pecos Bills as that is what we are near, but usually are in Fantasy Land around 1:30. We go to BOG for cupcakes and drinks and then watch Mickey's Philharmagic just before heading back to the resort for a break. We haven't had to wait in line that long. We did this last year and this year during June. I think it is now a tradition! :)
