Can you tell me about Cracker Barrel restaurant?

We like Cracker Barrell. We always eat at them on the way to Disney.

The Apple Dumplin with Vanilla Ice Cream is heavenly and HUGE!

Ooops can you tell I'm dieting?? I went to the sweets first...LOL!

Now J.C. always gets Chicken Tenders which are really good! John likes the pot roast, mom always gets the breakfast with the pancakes that are covered with fruit.....I love their salads and burgers.

We only like it for breakfast really, the lunch and dinner menu are just ok. It costs us approx. $30.00 for 4 of us for breakfast and that's just bacon/eggs/hashbrowns/toast all around and the portions are not very big at all.

I do love sitting near the fireplace when they have it lit :D

LOVE the chicken fried chicken with the gravy. Love the hashbrown casserole. OKRA.......YUMMY and the fried apples...oh I'm in heaven.

it The BEST!

We ONLY eat there for breakfast. NEVER for dinner/supper!

Our DD2 can spot one on the interstate faster than I can!

We enjoy it, don't go often. Breakfasts, as mentioned, are great. Not the best place though for low carbing, LOL, but food is very good.

DH likes it there more than I do. When we go, I always order breakfast, regardless of what meal it is. I find the lunch/dinner menu rather uninspired, and most of the lower fat options just aren't my favorite foods.

I do love their sourdough bread that they serve sandwiches on. The egg sandwich on wheat sourdough bread is delicious. I usually get it with fried apples. I know it's not particularly healthy, but it's yummy enough to justify splurging.

We have tried Cracker Barrel several times and have always found it to be mediocre. The service is slow, the food is either undercooked or burned (never just right), and the prices are high compared to other eateries that serve the same type of food. So, help me understand why we feel the need to give them a second chance, over and over again?

You can direct any questions on this subject to me. My DH, Goofys, works there!!!!:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :bounce:

They are coming out with low carb/atkins friendly options.

We live in the South, where Cracker Barrels are a big Mainstay. 'MOST' of the time, they are GREAT!!!

I second the delicious Chicken Strips (very good breaded chicken tenders!) The Hash Brown Casserole.... The large Salads.... etc. Breakfast is almost always great! Try the baked velveeta'style macaroni and cheese too. Many of the desserts , as mentioned, are wonderful.... And, if they have the promotional Chocolate Coca Cola Cake and you do not try it, you are insane... That stuff is AWESOME! Completely decadant!!! Served warm with fresh Breyers vanilla bean ice cream.

Ohhhh Yeah... About the 'gravy' comments... NO, they do not put gravy on their foods.... They even ask when you order whether you want gravy on your mashed potatos... And, you DO!!! They use the good beef gravy from the beef roast.. it is excellent! I always say, plenty of gravy please!

You can see that there are a few posters who say 'these restaurants are AWFUL' and I really think, as with many other restaurants, the individual restaurant can be hit-or-miss.

Here is one thought... I think that as with most 'regional' type foods, it can take somebody familiar, ( ie. from that region) to do-it-right. Give somebody from the North a bag of Pinto beans, and you are likely to end up saying YUCK!!!! But, being from the South, I can tell you that my Moms, with fresh hot skillet cornbread and real butter, were nothing less than Get-Me-Some-More wonderful!!! :p So, when new Cracker Barrell opens in the North, perhaps they do not always have it down-pat right at first????

Give them a try, ordering some of the recommended items... Then go back quite a while later and give them a second try as well !

PS: About Cracker Barrell, they take the old Southern adage "ya'll come on in and sit a spell' VERY seriously. Do not go there if you are in a hurry! :D

We have several near us. I love the atmosphere with the older toys, quilts, and fireplace. I've always had good food there. I like their Sweetened Tea, the Ruby Dressed Up Chicken Sandwich--served on grilled sourdough bread, their salads and I love the fact that there is a variety of veggies to choose from. Their baby carrots are really good. I don't eat there often, but I don't avoid it either. Ours are clean and the service is good.

I just wanted to add that it is not that I don't like the food and I do love gravy, btw, it is that I cannot EAT IT. The food is too rich for me.

When we lived in MI and would travel to IA we would always stop at a Cracker Barrel, even if it was just for a potty break. I found their changing area to be the cleanest for changing DD. Plus it was nice to get out and walk around the little shop and let her look at the stuff. (She was under 6 months so all of the "stuff" fascinated her.) We called her our "Cracker Barrel Baby". :)

The food we found to be good. Nothing out of the ordinary, but good enough to keep going back. :)

We have one about 10 minutes from us...and eat there occasionally for breakfast. The've perfected the breakfast menu...and are currently working on the others. Give it a try..you may love it...you may not.
I personally LOVE the shopping area of the store.

The sausage patties they serve with breakfast are so good. For dinner there chicken fried chicken breast is great. We mainly eat breakfast there, but once in blue moon will eat there for dinner.

I am in love with Cracker Barrel. I eat there at least once a week and can never get enough. I've never ordered anything there that I have not enjoyed and the whole rest of my family is the same way. We Love It!!! Hooray for Cracker Barrel. Saturdays are especially wonderful cuz that is lima bean day!

Take it from this Southern girl -- the sausage gravy is WRETCHED. I'm assuming it comes out of a can, because I've never tasted any real gravy that tasted like it. Country ham also isn't very good if you've actually had good country ham. Some things are good, though -- I would recommend the meatloaf and the biscuits and cornbread are delicious. They also do a pretty good job with Southern-sytle side dishes, such as fried okra.

We have one about 10 minutes from us but never eat there. We sometimes meet my parents at one about an hour away (half way between our houses) and I pretty much always get the meatloaf.

DH and I are both doing Atkins, and we usually have breakfast there once a week on the weekend. (I make breakfast Mon - Fri)

I do the scrambled eggs with cheese with extra crispy bacon, and DH does eggs the same way with sugar cured ham. He's more permissive than I am with Atkins (and he LOVES sugar cured ham).

We have them trained at our Cracker Barrel store for Atkins- we order a la carte, and many of the servers either have done or are doing Atkins. One server lost 90 lbs doing it.

Not only that, but when we drive to/from WDW, we have a Cracker Barrel locater map in our car that we use to call ahead to place our breakfast 'to go' orders. They're usually ready when we get there, and we eat them on the road in the car (I'm really good at balancing egg on a fork).

Love Cracker Barrel. Always have the fastest service. One time my parents had slow service and the manager gave them their meal free!

Love the Grilled Chicken Tenderloin! Delicious.

We were just there a week or so ago. DS called it "the fire restaurant" b/c of the big fireplace.
