Can you recommend a good book for beginners?

I don't want a dummies or idiot book, as I usually do not like the writing style, but how about a good book on the basics of photography in general, but digital specifically?

Thanks Kevin. Have you read them?

I have not really seen the need to personally, but I know many many people love his writing style. I likely will end up reading Understanding Exposure as I know that I do not know everything. The other pretty much covers the same stuff with a little on digital post-processing I believe. I am the most interested in his other book "Learning to See Creatively"

You can also learn everything in his books for free online, but not in a nice neat packaged place like the book. This is pretty much what I did before I ever knew about his books.

Bryan Peterson's book, "Understanding Exposure" was the first one I read. Even as a complete beginner, I was able to understand him! He doesn't write for dummies but he does a great job of explaining the technicalities, especially how aperature, shutter speed and ISO all inter-relate. I've had the book for 4 months and I go back and refer to it at least once a week.

I agree with Bryan Peterson's, "Understanding Exposure". I still refer to it from time to time. :)

Another "Understanding Exposure" by Bryan Peterson fan here! Highly recommended!
