Can you put drinks in your luggage (not carry-on)?

Maybe that's a "stupid" question?:confused3

We are flying SW, so we don't have pay to check 8 bags (between the 4 of us). It would be nice and less expensive if I could distribute some water, Dr. pepper, and food between a few bags (too keep the weight down) instead of having to order from a company.

You can put liquids in your checked luggage. In fact, we used a wheeled, soft-sided ice chest (cooler) as one of our pieces of luggage and just added ice to it to keep our drinks cold.

If you're going to pack liquids, please double bag it. I would probably triple bag it, just to be safe. Baggage handlers are not very gentle and your liquids could rupture and ruin other people's things.

That's a really good idea. At one time I had a soft sided one on wheels...wonder if I could find it.

Second this. We travel with water and Cherry Coke every trip and just put them in two ziploc bags and then place them equally throughout our suitcases to distribute the weight.

Thanks everyone! I will definitely take precautions against spillage!

Has anyone had their luggage with the liquids searched? I guess it's pretty easy to see what it is and that it's sealed, though. My mom had a nail kit in her luggage searched, and they didn't close the cuticle cream all the way. $20 down the drain....

I think ours have been searched on two separate occasions, but like I said we "stor" them in clear ziploc bags so I don't think the bags themselves have ever been opened.

Yeah, i thought your ziploc bags were a good idea. :thumbsup2

Yea, and as a side note, the ziploc bags come in handy for various other things once we get to WDW.....we use them for souvenirs and for carrying autograph books and such around in the park inside our bags (in case of rain) and a zillion other things we think of....;)

Yes you can, but I would not risk having all my belongings (plus other passengers stuff destroyed) to pack Dr.Pepper. As other poster has mentioned there are many times things are destroyed which can make a mess in your suitcase & spill/drip into those suitcases around you.

Once had someone else that packed a bottle of bacardi in a suitcase that got broken and destroyed my stuff....:headache:

I would never pack liquids like that in a suitcase. What if it leaked? It would be so awful.

This is one reason I only travel with carry-on bags. We buy shampoo and conditioner, as well as any water or whatever we need upon arrival. Pretty much the only liquids I bring are medicines which don't need to be any specific size.

I can't even imagine lugging a suitcase full of soda. Now, snacks I could do. But not drinks.

I don't think it's worth the risk, just for soda or water. I'm sure you can get that at Disney; either renting a car, or using a delivery company, or taking a town car service one way. The cheapest is probably the delivery company, which also would be far easier as they'll deliver it to your room (or the bell services will).

My luggage gets searched everytime that I put peanut butter in it. One time we had that and a can of sunblock. They took the sunblock out of the bag and it sprayed ALL OVER THE ENTIRE CONTENTS OF THE BAG AND THE BAG ITSELF! I had to throw the bag away and the clothes STILL smell like sunblock to this day!!!! It ruined a few pairs of flip flops as well. I was so mad!!

But, back to the orignial post, after experiencing that, it isn't worth it to me to pack things like that in a bag. I will buy it when we get there from Wegoshop.

I was going to reply outlining our (good) experience with packing liquids when flying (and cruising)...but then i saw the wegoshop shout out and figured I'd go check it out.

At the risk of hijacking has anyone used wegoshop?

When flying we pack any items that are food or drink related in separate freezer lock bags...never had an issue

I've used them once, and their prices are reasonable, but nowhere near as low as I'd pay at home watching sales. So if you are ok with adding on some for convience, it's worth it, but if you are wanting to save money, it's cheaper to bring with you..

I've also always double bagged with freezer bags (done this on at least 6 flights) and never had a problem...

another plus - we don't bring any of it home so it makes room for souveniors :thumbsup2

I am sorry maybe it is just me but seems a bit crazy to pack and take beverages in luggage, which as others have mentioned could be damaged and ruin your own things and/or things of others. If saving a buck or two is that important can you really afford to go on vacation? Just my thoughts :rolleyes1

I've done the opposite on other vacations. I've brought home wine or alcohol from various places (Las Vegas, Louisiana, Mexico, France) and have never had any of it broken. In case of spills I wrap the bottles in a plastic garbage bag, in your case a ziploc would work fine for smaller items, then I cushion them between clothes. I've wrapped fleece shirts and other puffy items around the bottles to protect them. I would just be sure to avoid any interior bars that may run on the inside of your luggage. Anything close to the outside of your luggage is most likely to be damaged if those bars are smacked.

Thanks to all who answered my question and offered advice nicely! :love:I decided that using Garden Grocer was better than worrying about drinks in the luggage, so have no fears - your luggage will not be ruined by me! :rotfl2:

Really? You had to add that last part? :sad2:
