My son feels he can't go 7 days without touching a basketball. We are at POR Riverside, any chance they have a court? If not, can just anyone go to WWSports and play or is the fee just to watch? He will survive not playing, at this point, I'm just curious.

We observed several courts at the resorts. For example there is a half court fenced but has an open gate in at Senses Spa in front of the Grand Floridian DVC Villa building. There is a court before the pool area at Kidani at Animal Kingdom Lodge.

I would guess a quick phone call to Senses might give you the permission for your son to play for a while as long as there are no guests playing. You might have to provide your own ball.

Sorry, WWoS is an event venue and isn't open for recreation.

As Twende pointed out, the DVC properties have recreation areas - tennis courts, bball, etc. Those will be available to guests of those specific resorts.

I just found THE answer.......who knew? My understanding is that because you are staying at a Walt Disney Resort that these courts can be used my you. And it looks like they provide the ball! Do be aware that the Swan and Dolphin charge and extra amount of money to park there so park else where and use the Ferry boats to arrive if you choose to play there.

"Bring Your "A" Game
Gather a few friends for some 3-on-3 hoops action or get in on a pick-up game.

Basketball courts ranging from quarter- to full-sized can be found at various locations at Walt Disney World Resort, allowing you to slam-dunk on your rivals, assist with an alley oop, practice your free throws or simply play a game of H.O.R.S.E.

Equipment and access to basketball courts are complimentary to Guests staying at select Walt Disney World Resort hotels and can be obtained using a valid Resort ID. Courts are found at the following locations:

From the part that states: Equipment and access to basketball courts are complimentary to Guests staying at select Walt Disney World Resort hotels and can be obtained using a valid Resort ID. You have to be a guest of that resort to use that resort's amenities.

I can see where it could mean that too. I know last year we were in the activity area at OKW making tie die shirts (we paid a fee) and I thought I had to be staying there to do it but several of the people there were from other Disney Resorts and they were welcome to pay a fee to do the shirts and do the free activities too.

I guess all this dad can do is call and ask and/or try to use the courts when he is there since you never get the same answers on a phone call.

I'm fairly certain that those facilities are only for guests staying at those particular resorts.

Call but I am sure all Disney resort guest can use activities at other resorts, except pools. I know we last year went over to fort wilderness for several activities, since it was a huge place and we had several places to go through out the day we rented bikes, no problem, we asked for checkers and had no problem getting them, we sat at the movie and had no problem, asked for a fishing pole (was that FW or WL I forget), had no problem. We paid for and had no problem with archery and horse back riding. I know we did even more and never had a problem, just scan our ban and got what we needed, if there was a fee we paid the fee. There is a recreational phone number, where you book boats, horseback riding and cabanas, I think if you look on my Disney and found that number, I bet they could answer your question. Also if you are at POR you have a huge option SS, OKW, FW are all somewhat close, if you don't drive, you can take the boat down to DS and then take OKW or SS.

I believe that is correct, however I know my son used the court at the Grand Flo several years ago while we were staying at the Poly ... so there might be some minor flexibility for proximity's sake. Or the court is attached to the spa and not the resort itself. That's shared with the Poly guests. I dunno. It might be worth a phone call either way.

My DS9 played basketball when we stayed at the Swan last year. I wouldn't exactly qualify their locations as "courts" (no painted lines), but they have basketball hoops. He had the most fun at the hoop by the Dolphin because there were a lot of kids there and they played a pick-up game. Although we were staying there, no one ever asked for resort ID.

For whatever reason I can not tab on the basketball info, but since you keep getting answers that say you can't I looked up other sports and when you read them I would assume it would work for basketball. Under tennis, volleyball and 8 ball pool, it says any guest staying at a Disney resort can use these facility's that are at several locations around the resorts. Basketball I would assume fits into the same catagory, and as a few have said they were allowed.again I would suggest you call the recreation dept and ask, because some due take ressies for the time you want to use it.

I agree. From my experiences, if you are an active guest staying on property they usually are not in the business of ruining the magic. Having said that, the word 'select' might be taken to group resorts within categories, relatively speaking.

That might be an exception, because keep in mind that Poly guests get to use the GF health club. Poly doesn't have one.

The fact that S&D are listed make me think you have to be a guest. S&D do not have reciprocity with ANY Disney-owned resort.

I don't have an answer for you, just want to say I feel you because my DS14 is the same :sad2: Promised him this August we'll stay at a resort with a court so he'll stop whining lol!
