I was trying to rent from Alamo and they said only if you have rt airfair. This bums me out big time. I can not find a van rental for 12 days for more than 836 inlcuding taxes. alamo was 150 less. But I can not get them because I do not have rt air fair!

It's not Alamo's policy, it's just a rate or "sale" issue. Basically, some special rates are only available to people who are flying into an airport- and you have to show proof of airfare to get the special rate. You can still book through Alamo, just not with that special rate.

When you book online you do not need to enter your flight information, why would you have to have a return flight?

This is really a way to limit your unlimited mileage. Unlimited mileage is sometimes intended for "normal" driving for a customer on vacation. The rental rate you got isn't intended for you to drive from NY to FL and back.

Sometimes the fine print in a rental ageement will limit your unlimited mileage to driving in the state of rental and/or adjacent states.

You could always buy a fully-refundable trip that you never intend to take.

But, as Lewisc mentions, check the fine print---"unlimited" mileage often has limits.

OP Where are you picking up and dropping off and when. The rental car companies due allow for drop offs in a different location....sometimes charging you an additional fee.

Are you paying with a debit card? I was under the impression that you had to have a R/T ticket if you paid with a debit card. We have never shown or entered our flight information when renting cars. We only have rented from National, so maybe that is the difference.
