Its killing me not knowing what village we will be in. I know its nothing major but im dying to know. If i call reservations can they tell me? We are not going until October though.
Sorry, you won't be given your room assignment until you've checked in at the resort, and the room is cleaned and ready to be occupied. There's no way to get that info in advance of your trip, and your room won't even be assigned until shortly before your arrival date.

This is correct. I will add that you can request a certain village. Just call CRO and ask for a request to be placed on your reservation. I believe you can also make the request when doing online check-in. If your assigned room isn't in your requested area when you check-in, then you can politely ask the CM if there is a room available in the section you desire. Sometimes they can change your room assignment to fit your request, other times they can't.
ETA: I should say that it is somewhat frowned upon to ask for a room assignment change if you have done online check-in. The purpose of the online check-in is to speed up check-in at the resort and they will have everything ready for you in a packet so you can just show your ID, sign a paper or two, and be off to your pre-assigned room.
If you have a pirate room, you'll know you're in Trinidad South. I do know that. My friend is staying in one and was hoping that they would be close to the pool/eating, but alas...it is far. really far. lol.
Rooms aren't even truly assigned a few days in advance, they're "pre-assigned." The room isn't truly taken out of inventory until in-person check-in occurs.
For example, let's say you are pre-assigned a room in Barbados, and there are no totally open rooms in Barbados left. Before you arrive, someone checking-in who was pre-assigned a room in Aruba requests a room in Barbados instead, they will get it because your room has not yet been spoken for, if you know what I mean.

And even if you book a certain type of room, there is still a small chance you won't get it. I've had that happen twice now. I'm sure it dosen't happen that often, but for some reason I've been pretty unlucky with room assignments.

How common is this, we specifically are staying at CBR for the pirate rooms. If we don't get a pirate room I would prefer another resort. Of I get there and there are no pirate rooms can I switch resorts
If you are really set on a specific location and wouldn't want to accept any other location, I'd recommend against doing online check-in. But I've done online checkin twice and had my room requests met both times. Out of 7 trips to WDW, only once was the first room offered to me not what I requested.
