Can you exchange tickets you've purchased with airmiles?

My son has cystic fibrosis. His meds are about 1000.00 a month. We transfer HBC points for airmiles. Get 50+ a month and then about 50 + at Sobeys and then around 15 monthly from BMo (Bank of Montreal)

Did you look at just buying the airmiles to make up the difference? When we booked our flight last year, we didnt have enough Airmiles for all 5 tickets, so we just bought the last 3-4 hundred that we needed. I don't know if they will let you for the passes, but it wouldn't hurt to ask...

The $ that would need to be given to airmiles to make up the difference was nearly the same price as her ticket!

Where do you rack up the most airmiles points? Is it Dominion? A gas station? How long did it take some of you to get those point totals?

Thanks. Curious.

I have an American Express airmiles credit card. It is the basic one so there's no yearly charge. You get 1 airmile for every $20 charged. We also shop at Dominions when they have airmile specials -- last fall they gave 100 airmiles if you shopped there once a week for a month, plus the extra specials in-store.

Each province seems to be different. A previous poster mentioned Sobey's, but that's not the case in Ontario.

We do the same. Plus if we going to be making a large purchase I'll put it on my airmiles amex and pay the charge right away. I just bought a new washer and dryer - saved the cash first - charged it to my amex and paid it off as soon as the bill came. It feels like a bonus that way.
The September deal at Dominion made a big difference this year. It added about 600 miles to our total so that topped up what we had enough to buy all our tickets.

Does anyone know the cost of exchanging an Air Miles 7-day Adult no expiry ticket for an AP? I'm trying to see if it's better to redeem for a 7-day or a 5-day ticket.

TIA!

From the Disney site:
7 day Adult no expiry ticket value = $300
Annual Pass value = $559

You would pay the difference ($259US) plus tax to upgrade that ticket.
If you are a dvc member they may give you the discount.

Thanks for the quick reply!

Would I get the full value of the 7-day ticket? I thought I remembered reading somewhere that Air Miles tickets have a discounted value.

I've been told you receive full value of the ticket. I'm going to interrogate the guest services when we go down next month - so we'll all know for sure for next time.:thumbsup2

I didn't have enough airmiles to buy two 5 day passes so I bought one 3 day and one 5. I was staying at a Disney Resort and they upgraded with no problem. Here is a tip to try (not guaranteed it will work but it did for me...). Show them the price reflected on the airmiles pass (mine was something like $179 for the 5 day) and then make sure you point it out and ask if that is the price difference. I honestly didn't know but brought it up and managed to get 2 more days for about $30 US!

Carly Ann - not sure if you have Safeways in New Brunswick but they have 10x airmiles the first Tuesday of each month. i have Crohn's and my meds cost about $300-$400 per month. At 1 for every 20, it makes about 100 airmiles each time I renew!! Plus, if you have an airmiles credit card, that is even better!

Wow, that is alot of airmiles for that amount of dollars! Cohns.....that is a tough one too!

Is safeway a drugstore. I don't think we have any here in Fredericton. Gosh if we did the airmiles would rack up quick!

Thank you

We do the same thing at Pharmasave. Our meds are quite high (2 type 1 diabetics) and we use our Mosaic Mastercard (1 for every $15). We also usually have coupons for 2x or 3x airmiles. They add up quite quickly. We also use the card for major purchases and then pay it off immediately. In addition, you only need 1650 airmiles to fly with Westjet. We have four tickets for April and enough for four more next year!!

Safeway is a grocery store with a pharmacy. My last prescription renewal gave me about 100 airmiles. the best thing is that my coverage is 100% but I still get airmiles!

We bought airmiles tickets and exchanged them for non-expiry a few years ago. No problems but it takes TIME... so get there earlier. I was surprized how long it took to get the new tickets - 30 minutes or so. Not fun with anxious children right at the gate waiting to go IN! Deb
