Nope. One night I had to drive all of the drunkards home in one and that was one night. I got us stuck at a stoplight less than a mile from home. Somehow I just couldn't get it to go.
Yes. DH can't though. When we were in college, he had to drive my car home one night so I asked him if he knew how and he said "yes" even though he'd never even tried before. He thought he could "figure it out". Yeah right. I probably could have driven home intoxicated better than he did that night. (KIDDING!)
Hey! I resemble that remark! I taught myself to drive a stick AND taught my hubby too... Let's just say it was interesting! Good luck to you...
I think every lady should learn how. My Mom never knew how, but I thought it might toughen me up some! You never know when you might need this knowledge... if only to get the chance to one-up your hubby!
I drove one from age 18 to 25 years old. It has been almost 10 years since I have drove one though. (it was a 1982 VW Jetta, that was my college car.)
I liked the fact that I knew how to drive one. It made me feel more indipendent.
They don't make many manual trans mini vans now a days. I haven't had a stick shift for a while. I don't even know anyone who owns one anymore.
Sometimes I miss it, it was fun to drive. However I do so much while driving now a days (pass food to kids change DVD's etc....) just as easy to have auto trans.
Yep, my dad made me learn how to drive one before I was allowed to get my license. I had to be able to balance on a hill, jumped the clutch, all kinds of things. I don't have a stick right now, but have had many over the years.
dw and i both love driving a standard, but, currently we bnoth have automatic s. my next suburban will probably have a stick shift, and i fully intend that dd will learn to drive one before shes allowed to have a drivers liscense. of course she'll also be able to drive a bulldozer, and a back hoe, and other large equipment, there will be no excuse for her to not have a ride home should she need it.
You bet! My 64 Volkswagen Beetle (already an antique when I bought it, mind you! ) had a stick. I bought it before I knew how to drive it, and my boyfriend gave me a few driving lessons.
I had 2 cars that were a stick and then when we gat married I made my husband get a car with a stick when we bought a new one, with the intention that he would learn to drive it. He just could not get the hang of it, so we got rid of it. I loved my one car; it was an MG Midget...little 2 seater sports car. I hated going respectable and getting a "real" car when we started to have kids.
I sure can. The very first car I bought was a Fiat 124 Sports Coupe. I had to learn to drive it. I love driving a stick ocassionally, but don't like them in heavey traffic.
Never feel fully in control of an Auto box - Manual shift is more fun Nothing better when makin' progress thru country lanes. You can keep the engine in the power band all the time
No that is why I can not go on The Amazing Race. Neither Dh or I know how to. We would be eliminited very quick it seems all the cars overseas are stick.
My dad taught me how to drive a stick. Haven't had standard in years. When I was teaching my nephew (DH lost his patience trying to teach him), he was surprised that I knew how to drive a stick. If it wasn't for my bum left knee, I would love to have another one.
what i learned on and all i drove my jeep wrangler was my fav , now my truck is not a stick, i always felt safer in a stick when it came to bad weather.
No, it's impossible for me to. Being a paraplegic, I use hand controls for my brake/accelerator. I manuever that with my left hand, steer with my right. If I had a 3rd arm I'd be happy to learn though!
