Can you downgrade a rental car?

I just got an amazing rate at Alamo in Seattle in a few weeks. Thing is, the cheapest rate offered was for a standard pickup! Now, its just going to be us two girls, and we'd be more comfortable with the usual sedan. If I must drive a pickup, I wil, but wondering if I can ask for a car at the Alamo desk? Has anyone done this? I've gotten upgraded before, but never thought about asking for a smaller car...(esp with gas prices being as they are)

Yes you can "downgrade" and you can do it online But, be aware, you will be paying the prevailing rate when you change.

The reason it was probably the cheapest rate was because they have an over supply of that type of vehicle.

I wouldn't necessarily expect a better rate on a cheaper vehicle. I was checking rates yesterday and one of the cheapest vehicles was a 15 passenger van.

Thank you for your responses. I thought that may be the reason why it was the cheapest rate. I'll take it though and see what awaits us when we get there! (btw...it keeps going down. Its $6 cheaper than it was a few hours ago...)
