Can you do this?

I am wondering if it is possible to split a contract and sell just part of the points?

Or must you sell the entire contract?

I am considering selling a small contract of points, but keeping maybe 10 points, so I can still be a disney vacation club member and get all the perks.

Does Disney have a minimum amount of points required to still be a member?

You cannot split up a contract and sell just part of the points.

You could buy an add on for 25 points (the smallest amount Disney will sell to an existing member) and then sell the "Master". You would end up with just the 25 points.

Best wishes -

Unless you have like 14 people living with you in your home (same address), so they all can get the AP discount, I don't see where purchasing the points, paying the dues and all would be worth the ever changing DVC perks.

Maybe not for the perks alone, but I am planning a similar strategy. Buy a small package at the next destination DVC and sell everything else once our Dec trip is done. I will title it such that all of my immediate family will be owners, including those not living with us. Yes, I'll likely have to go through the ownership change procedure, total cost less than $50. Then maybe one trip every 3 years or so on points but periodic long weekends on cash (live 4 hours away). The value of owning is this manner is directly related to HOW you use it but I feel it will be worth the aggravation for us. Remember that every member gets the same perks other than those directly tied to points stays. Currently that would included ALL the discounts, including valet parking, member cash discount, Disney online discount and AP discount. In some ways of usage, the perks alone could easily be worth $500 or more per year for the right family.

Yes, but all of those perks could change in a drop of a hat if DVC and Disney wanted them to. :Pinkbounc

Even a small (25 point) contract would have maintenance fees, and they would definitely cost more than the "perks" would save. Another thing is that many perks are there only if you are staying on a points ressie.

No doubt, owning simply for the perks alone and NOTHING else, would not be reasonable. But owning MAINLY for the perks can be reasonable for the right circumstance and thankfully, I will be in that situation after Dec of this year.

Diane, as I noted above, there are many perks that are not stay specific. The ones I can think of that are points specific are PH and the golf discount. The other is cash discount which obviously doesn't really apply to this discussion. Maint fees on 25 points would be roughly $100. Free Valet parking and the AP discount could easily be worth several hundred dollars a year to many families. And my situation is even more unique. I still plan to stay about once a year on average by utilizing II exchanges. I can then get the member perks just like staying on points in most situations. But it is a specialty circumstance that is not for everyone. I wonder how many Orlando area people own in large part due to the perks.

Not so sure about that. Let's say I owned a timeshare near Disney and planned on going to Disney for 20 or so days per year. I could have a 25 point contract that would get me a Sun - Thursday ressie every other year and still get the annual pass discount for my whole family.

If it were, say a family of 5, the discount on the annual passes alone would make this worth it in about 6 years.

I think it really depends on the situation, it COULD be worth it in select cases, but in the majority of cases, it probably isn't.

Ah yes, the AP discount would certainly be worth it in that case, but that is assuming you live nearby. Also, that is not a guaranteed perk...it could be gone next year.
