Can you combine direct sales points & resale points?

With the changes to the perks for resale could you do this...
Let's say I have 100 points direct sale & 100 points resale. I want to book BLT for 150 pts. BLT isn't in the main villas category so the resale points can't book BLT anymore. Could I still use both points combined to pay for it of will I be limited to only those I have through the direct sales?

What do you mean by this? Any DVC points can book BLT at 7 months - resale or direct. So your question doesn't really make any sense to me.

When we met with the dvc member a few days ago, he said 1 of the new restrictions for resale was that resale can'take book in hotels that are in 3 of the 4 pkgs or categories. They can only book from the 1st one which he described as the villas category. He said BLT is considered a hotel & therefore put in the other category.

The Contemporary is a hotel. BLT is all villas.

Booking BLT is doable with resale (subject to availability) but CR (for example) is not.

This is not correct.

All points, no matter where/how they were purchased can be used to book a DVC resort. BLT is a DVC resort.

Resale points purchased after 3/11/2011 cannot be used to book a HOTEL room (such as the Contemporary), but those cost so many points that I can't believe anyone would want to do that, anyway.

Basically, he is confusing you by mixing up the Dusney resort categories and the DVC villas.

DVC points book DVC villas. Resale points cannot be used to book Disney hotel rooms (Value, Moderate or Deluxe HOTEL ROOMS).

Booking rooms at resorts like Pop, Art of Animationr even a place like the Contemporary Resort has always been a low-value use of DVC points and losing that ability should not be a deciding factor for the overwhelming majority of purchasers.

If he truly said that you can't book BLT with resale points then find another guide if you do think you might buy direct. That one was lying. Now it may have been a misunderstanding but if he was intentionally trying to confuse the issue it would have been to get the sale and there are plenty of guides that won't do that.

Step back and learn about DVC so you'll know enough not to be confused by such sales tactics.

If you own BLT points, direct or resale or both, then you can book BLT 11 months out.
If you own any DVC points from other resorts, direct or resale or both, you can book BLT at 7 months out.

For simplicity, let's assume the above points are in the same use year and available on the same member number (master contract). You can relax these assumptions and it is still true, but you might have to jump through some hoops.

I just looked up the Contemporary points chart.

If you stay at BLT in the cheapest season a studio would be about 14 points per night. With your 150 points, you could stay almost 10 nights (not quite, because weekends take more points).

If you stay at Contemporary in the cheapest season, a hotel room would cost 53 points per night. With your 150 points, you could stay 2 nights (almost 3).

This difference in cost is why most DVC members do not use their points to book in the hotels.

Didn't Disney just change their policy to not allow new resale purchases to book hotels? I'm not familiar with BLT but figured that might be what your agent is talking about. Old resale purchases will still have perks that were offered at time of purchase but new purchase perks have changed.

No, they didn't' just change that. They changed that 5 years ago. As Tim Johnson posted, it's a terrible value for your points; 14 points for a room at BLT versus 54 points for a room at the Contemporary.

Gotcha. I agree it's a terrible way to use points but I'll probably use some to stay at The Disneyland Hotel. HAHAHA

BLT is a DVC resort so which your guide would have known so if they were saying BLT then either they were intentionally lying or they have no idea about DVC. Both reasons to talk to someone new. But there's no good reason to buy DVC direct to stay at the Disney hotels either. Way, way more expensive and you pay a $95 exchange fee too. Might as well pay cash and have the flexibility that comes with that.

I researched ALOT before going on a tour when they were still selling BLT. I think it was in 2010. My sister had bought BLT direct in 2009, the year before, and I was interested.

During the tour, I remember I started getting really pissed at the guide for various reasons, which i could go into detail but I won't. Ultimately the guide said what he thought he needed to say to prompt us to buy, and he played his cards wrong.

We went resale 6 mo later at bwv, and bought BLT resale a year ago. I've never regretted buying resale.

The guides have a vested interest in getting you to buy. The only resort worth buying direct, IMO, is the poly.
