Can you clean off your own table please?

Weird. I noticed nothing like this in January. And every time we started slowly (b/c I was getting sick and was doing everything slowly) putting our stuff in order to get ready to (send my son to) take it to the clearing stations, a CM would pop up and tell us not to bother, that they would do it.

I mean seriously, i know you want to look for pulls and whatnot on your $18 bath towel, but is is SOOO hard to TRY and fold it back up?

I liked the end of your story, but.....I promise that if I make an attempt to fold the stuff back up, you will STILL have to come behind me and make it store-perfect. I never worked clothing (could only get hired for food, sadly) and have never been able to learn how to make a towel look like the store employees do, nor a shirt in the right way, etc. I can still make a Jack in the Box burger (late 80s style, at least) if required to do so, but I can't fold a shirt the way they do at the Gap.

We stay at POP every year, but it's usually not a busy time. To avoid the food court issues (IE: other people, love the food) we eat breakfast in our rooms or at one of the tables by the pool. Usually my BIL and I will go get everyone's food while my Mom and Sister finish getting the kids ready. Saves time and chaos. I also usually eat lunch or dinner at off hours. It helps!

Yes. People need to clean up after themselves. I really don't understand why it's that hard of a concept. There are plenty of refuse receptacles in the quick service areas. It's not as if they are inaccessible to guests, or located in inconvenient locations. Unfortunately, more people seem to be feeling as if not picking up after yourself is acceptable.

As for the Pop food court... I am a firm believer in that the cleanliness of the area really comes from the top. If the manager is good, it reflects in the employees and the area in which they work. After meeting the manager of F & B at Pop, I can understand why it is as disgusting as it is. Not that he himself is disgusting, but he just doesn't care and is downright rude.

The food court at Pop was so insane every time we went we never stayed there to eat and took our food back to our room instead. But just around the parks in general I've witnessed people not cleaning up after themselves a few times. I'm sure it happens a lot. And its terribly rude.

It is not just at Pop, people leave their garbage everywhere is disney and the CM's just can't move fast enough. I wish people wouldn't feel so entitled as to not clean after themselves.

I worked at the Gap in high school. We had special boards we used to fold. ;)

a hundred thousand years ago when I worked in retail, I had a similar experience. we had these long tables where sale stuff was put out. I worked in the Bed and Bath department so inevitably the towels would get unfolded and tossed back all sloppy. I watched a woman totally destroy a table.( I mean seriously, i know you want to look for pulls and whatnot on your $18 bath towel, but is is SOOO hard to TRY and fold it back up? ) well she walked away( without grabbing anything I might add) leaving it looking like the dogs had had a wrestling match in the middle of the table. her SON.. who couldn't have been more than ten, asked her " aren't you going to fix the table? her reply as she stared right at me" that's what they get paid to do."

so of course as soon as she leaves I mosey on over and spend the next 20 minutes making it purty again.. and when I finally finished she was standing at the register tapping her foot impatiently( couldn't see from where I was).

"its about time you showed up" in a nasty tone.

my reply? "Oh I am soo sorry, but a customer totally made a huge mess on one of my tables and I had to spend my time cleaning up after her and couldn't monitor the cash register" knowing full well who said customer was. the kid's smirk was worth the glare I got.

And this is why I quit retail.

People are so inconsiderate....

I know it's not just one set of people responsible, but honestly I can remember the WDW Resort before certain tour groups started taking up residence there and I didn't see nearly the amount of garbage left on tables at that point. Having worked retail and dealt with these same groups where I am, I can say 100% that in their case it is entitlement. And feeling like anyone who works retail or food service is uneducated and lower class. I heard it straight from their mouths - not that they knew I was on the other side of the fixture cleaning their mess.

And it's an avalanche of an issue. Someone who's never been to WDW before gets to their resort and goes to the food court. While they're eating, they see groups of people leaving their stuff on the tables and someone cleaning them up. So of course, someone who doesn't know that that is NOT how it is supposed to work is going to do the same. So they leave their stuff. And then it happens again, and again, and again.

Those of us who DO clean up our own stuff are like throwing a little pebble in a big ocean. But at least we help the cast members out a little.

Agreed. Not just a pebble to help CM but also to set a good example to those who may not know or to those who just forgot!

We stayed at Riverside and people are pigs there to. The food court was dirty and the staff very unpleasant. The soda machines had missing buttons for some of the flavors. The coffee and creamers are always out and the sink to rinse your cups are dirty. Same as the Pop.

And this is probably the main reason why most clothes shops in the UK (non-designer ones, anyway), tend to hang everything up these days because that way you don't get messy piles and some poor soul doesn't have to stand there for hours on end following people round the shop tidying up after them!

Many moons ago I had a Saturday job at Woolworths, and I was on the clothes section. As a lowly Saturday girl, my first job straight after lunch was to tidy up the counter which had all the knickers and teeshirts on it. I found the easiest way was to just remove everything until I hit the first layer of tidy stuff and then build it back up again so it was all neat and tidy and in colour/size order. As a result of this I am actually quite good at 'air folding' teeshirts and jumpers so that when I've looked at something in a shop I can put it back on the top of the pile so while it's not as pristine as it was, it at least looks like it matches the rest of the pile.

Totally agree. We were in our local KFC outlet last Saturday, and a young couple (late teens/early 20s) finished and just got up and walked out. Didn't even dump their rubbish back onto the tray to make it easier!

I think it's a culture thing; people are getting lazier and lazier in a thoughtless way (rather than a deliberate 'it's not my job' way). I have only ever TWICE left my tray on the table when finished - and that was because the bins were all full as no-one had come out to empty them (short staffed).

More often than not, if there is a 'cleaner' (for want of a better word) at a shopping mall food hall who is hovering around, they'll always say to me 'Don't worry, I'll get that' when they see me piling everything up on the tray ready to take it to the bins. But I'd never dream of calling one over specially or leave my tray on the table if there wasn't one in sight.

Priceless!!

I don't agree with the "Someone who's never been to WDW" theory. I would wager that these same people behave the same way, whether it's at Disney, the mall food court or any fast food restaurant. It's not a habit you develop over night, it's learned, maybe even taught. In any case, all we can do is teach our children to behave better than that and set an example ourselves.

It's pretty simple, the food and drink are served in throw away containers, so throw them away. (Recycle if possible ;) ).

I always loved the John Wooden saying:
“The true test of a man’s character is what he does when no one is watching.”

Words to live by. Sorry for getting kind of preachy...

All of this is why we avoid food courts (and many of the quick service options as a whole) when we can. It's not for snobbish, "we're not eating THERE" reasons. It's because oftentimes, it's so much of a pain to try and find a seat (or clean table), wrestling over condiment bars, etc. Usually very unpleasant experiences.

And, I will say that touring through the various Values (to see if we would be interested in staying in one versus the usual Moderates [and sometimes WL or AKL]), the food courts hammered the definitive "NO" nail into the "not going to stay here" coffin in most, if not all, of them.

I totally agree if they are taught to act this way they will. My wife and I say it all the time they had to learn it from somewhere and its usually from their parents. It just keeps going from generation to generation.Your children are an extension of yourself. We teach our daughters to respect not only what is theirs but especially others as well. Its the way we were brought up not to act like animals.

This is how I feel. I've never heard a good thing about POP. I'd be all about staying there to save a bit on the room costs, but the food court would drive me up a tree. We were at POR our last night this past August. Breakfast there was a zoo. I loved the rest of the resort and I'd stay there again since they have other food options.

In our experience, the POR food court, at breakfast, was horrendous. That, among many other things, has pretty much taken WDW, at least right now, off of our list of vacation destinations.

People not throwing away their own trash is one thing (gross!). They shouldn't have trash just laying around - someone should be going around and wiping down tables to keep them clean. Maybe signs would help.

Dirty carpet is another. Disney should be taking care of that. Overall, the resorts and parks are bringing in big bucks. Changing to tile, some new carpet or the cleaning of that carpet would not kill them.

This is one of the reasons I don't like eating in the food courts.

I had a horrible experience at POR that centered around cleanliness. I never mentioned the food court before, but yes - it was really gross. And we were not there at peak times. No one was out wiping down tables. I was not impressed. I cannot remember if it had carpet or not.

Really, people talking about carpet at food courts - that should not be in a food court area at all. A hard surface like tile that can easily be swept and mopped should be. That is almost like having carpet in the bathroom.
