Saratoga springs through Disney? We don't own anything yet, but I thought I had read somewhere that they put you on a waitlist for what you want???

And you could avoid the closing costs. I guess my confusion is whether this is only for current owners, or is also for a new owner?

Thanks in advance for any help...

Right now they are actively selling Animal Kingdom and Saratoga-
you can buy any of the other resorts but will probably have to go on a waitlist. There are closing costs on AKV and SSR if you are not a member - costs vary but are generally lower than resale closing.
I am not positive if you pay ccs on OKW, BWV, BCV, VWL if you are buying in as a new owner. Someone else will answer that- or call DVC and ask.

If you are thinking of OKW, VB, or BWV, you will be able to buy direct without much waiting, but if you are thinking of BCV or VWL, expect a waitlist.

Editing because I just realized that this may be off topic. Sorry about that.

One thing not mentioned is that if you are a nonmember and you buy through Disney they will require you to purchase a contract with a minimum of 160 points. When you purchase through resale you can make an offer on any size contract even as small as 25 points and if Disney waives their ROFR then you will become an official DVC member once the contract closes.

It seems as though I might get a better price per point if I bought re-sale, but I would pay more in closing costs.

I'll have to think it through.

Good idea! Look at all your options, and make the decision based on what works best for you. You will need to consider length of contract (35, 47 or 50 years), what time of year you normally will travel, what kind of accommodations and resort you want to stay at, etc.

And with the resale market, keep in mind that the contracts are usually not "clean". There are "stripped" contracts which have all of this year's points used up and even next years. There are "loaded" contracts that have banked points from last year available. So price per point can vary quite a bit on the resale market depending on the condition of the contract.

Keep doing your homework. DVC isn't going anywhere and you want to do the work now to ensure satisfaction if you decide to buy. :)

We finally took a bite and purchased 160 pts at BVC last month. Waited only about a week. Our guide was excellent, although really haven't delt with him since. As soon as we found out, booked a Dec trip, 2 studios, 1 for me and DW, and the other for DD and DS with their significant others. Cant wait.

1985 - hotel outside front gates
1992 - Yacht & Beach Club (fell in love)
2002 - Carribean Beach
2006 - Pop Century

plan on quick 3-4 day this summer at BVC, and Dec 2007 for a week at BVC or BWV
