for just one Use Year? And if so, how do you go about this? Through Disney or other DVC members? Interested in buying an additional 120 points to use in 2008. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!! :thumbsup2

No, you can't buy points for just one use year. If you buy points, you get that same number of points each year until the contract expires.

You can, however, arrange a transfer with another member. You pay the other member, they transfer points into your account, and those points are for one UY only.

Caveat: Transferring is technical, tricky, and restricted. Research the process carefully before you do it.

thanks for the reply...i have a couple more questions, forgive me if they seem dumb but I just want to get everything straight...

our UY is Sept. We will be transferring over 40 points to next year. We are interested in purchasing an additional 120 for friends of ours so they can come with us. Our Home Resort is the AKV, which I plan to call 11 months out (this Oct.) & reserve 3 studios, however, we would really like to stay at the BCV but I can't call for that of course until Feb. 08'...so my question is...does it matter which DVC member I purchase the points from? Has anyone been in a similiar situation before? We are new at this...

Also, is there anywhere I can find out more info about this process? I did check out the Rent/Transfer board but wasn't able to figure it out really as it appears to be mostly postings of what people are offering.

Any additional help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks so much!

If you have enough points for your reservation, and the 120 is enough for the entire reservation for your friends, an alternative may be for you to simply rent a reservation from another member without doing an actual transfer. The downside is that the other DVC member retains control of the ressie, and you can not call Member Services to confirm or add ME or DDp to the reservation, or change dates if necessary.

Either way, it is certainly generous of you to consider spemding upwards of $1200 to get a room for your friends...points usually go for $10 to $12 per points for both reservation rentals and transfers.

Remember that either transaction is a private agreement between you and another DVC member. If something goes sour, neither DVC nor Disney will become involved. These transactions involve trust on both sides.

Transfers can not be reversed, so any member would probably want a substantial portion of the payment before initiating a transfer...on the other hand, you could give them $$ and they not complete the transfer..so be sure you have verifiable contact info, names, phone numbers, street address, etc.

Personally... Just to keep the reservations together, you may just want to consider using points for one room and then paying the "rack rate" for your friends... Maybe work out some arrangement with your friends to have them help pick up the bill..

In my experience, people (even friends) tend to cancel if they don't have costs vested in the trip.
