Can you bring in food? Stroller parking?

Having never been in Universal, there are things we take for granted at Disney. Being able to bring in our own food - bottled water, toddler snacks, etc. Also easy stroller parking for our giant "SUV" double stroller, and baby care centers. How are these things different (or the same) at Universal?

ETA: And parking trams - do they have them at Universal?

We have always been able to bring in our own snacks at Universal as well as bottled water, at most places that sells drinks you can request a free cup of ice water as well and many have been nice enough to just fill up our bottles with ice for us too.

You don't need to worry about a tram, the parking garage is right next to City Walk so you can walk or use those people movers to get into City Walk area.

Stroller parking is not as easy as it is in Disney, but we never seemed to have a problem with leaving ours outside the rides. Can't help you on the baby care centers since I never really used those at Disney and at Universal I just used the restroom changing tables.

We are planning to only to go Islands of Adventure - do we park there (which I saw was $15), or park in the garage and walk? We may go to City Walk one day as well. How much is the parking garage?

You will need to park in the garage...which serves both parks and CityWalk and walk to the parks. The daily rate is $15.00 per car.

Is the parking still cheaper in the evenings? If you go to Citywalk one evening, parking should be way less after a certain time.

Parking at Citywalk is 3 dollars after six pm. They have two baby care rooms in the two first aid locations. One is by the front of the park in Guest Services and the other is in Lost Continent.

Is "preferred parking" worth the extra? We'll have two cars, so it's a difference of $30 vs. $40. We definitely don't mind a walk - we are used to hoofing it through Disney parking lots and we never take the trams (not worth the hassle of unloading and folding up "the SUV").

I don't think it's worth it. Preferred puts you on level three so you won't have to deal with elevators or escalators but it's no closer to the parks.
