We are planning to head to the Hess station in DTD to get some beer and snacks on our arrival day. Can you take that onto the bus back to our resort?

  1. The former Hess stations are now Speedways.
  2. The former DTD is now Disney Springs.
  3. The former PI bus depot no longer exists.
  4. The former crosswalk to the former Hess station no longer exists.
  5. Much of the sidewalk along Buena Vista Dr. in front of and across from DS is closed.
To get from the DS Marketplace Depot to the Speedway station, you will need to walk through the Marketplace to Planet Hollywood, cross Buena Vista Dr. on the new pedestrian overpass, and (if that sidewalk is closed, as I think it is) walk through the cast parking lot behind the Speedway and circle around the other side of it. Total walk is around a mile each way.

OK.....wow. That's good to know. So maybe walk from Studios to the Speedway by the Boardwalk with an Uber ride back to Pop?

That's an option. The walk from the DS bus area to the Boardwalk Speedway is about 0.6 mi. But don't walk all the way to BW; the shorter route is to walk up the hill after crossing under BVD, and then the sidewalk along BVD to the Speedway.

Garden Grocer for beer and snacks delivery. IT's a $14 delivery fee if I recall correctly. Cheaper and easier than taking a couple of Ubers I would think. Yes you will pay a bit more, but so worth it for convenience!

Ha, I did this several years back whilst staying at Port Orleans. After paying for a few $5+ beers at the General Store on site, I figured out the Hess alternative. While the rest of the family was touring Downtown Disney, I took a walk across the street from Pleasure Island to the Hess Station and stocked up on beer, I think 24 for the price of 2 beers on site. I brought two cloth grocery bags. We then rode the Sassagoula riverboat back to the resort. Ah, those special Disney memories!

but apparently that isn't an option? so.. we are staying at POFQ... how can I walk from DS to the gas station , buy beer and wine, and get back via boat to POFQ?

As PP mentioned walking is not an option as part of the walkway to the gas station is closed. Your only option is a cab to the Speedway and by the time you do that you might as well buy it at the resort.

Joelkfla described the path you would need to take to get to the gas station from DS in post #4.

Seriously, just get it delivered.
it's not like I'm cheap. almost every disney trip for the past 10 years we have made a point to go to downtown disney early in the trip. usually eat at Planet hollywood. or sometimes earl of sandwich or Wolfgang Puck's Express. we walk across the street, buy some beer and wine at the Hess (ok, not the Hess anymore).
It was never a problem before. it took maybe 15 minutes. we only don't do that if we are staying at Boardwalk.. it is a 7 minute walk for me from the lobby of BW to the Hess near the BW resort.
it's just a shame this isn't an option anymore.. we can no longer drive down from Illinois (vision problems) . I'm disapointed that Disney has made it so difficult now to walk from DTD to the gas station.. makes it hard for those who don't have a car. it was VERY simple before. a $14 delivery fee for a case of beer and a couple fo the little 4 packs of wine is not worth it to me.

To me it's worth it to also get a couple cases of Dasani (we drink a lot of water, and yes I know it's bad for the environment but on vacation I do go through bottles of it) plus snacks and some drinks for the grown-ups.
It's too bad that they no longer deliver hard liquor! IIRC the first time I used them, I had them include a bottle of Grey Goose. Now I buy a bottle of vodka at Norway in Epcot - $20 for a 1L is reasonable!

First of all, Disney Springs, not DTD.

Disney hasn't intentionally made it difficult; it's the construction that's in progress, and the roadway enhancements.

BVD will, I think, be 10 lanes wide when done, including bus and turn lanes in the count. Those who designed it reasonably decided that crosswalks would be a safety and efficiency issue, so they built 2 pedestrian overpasses. Unfortunately, the nearest overpass is a block away from the Speedway.

The sidewalks are closed because the road is under construction. The new bus depot will be centrally located approximately where the PI bus depot was, but it's also under construction, so every one arriving on bus has to walk or take the water taxi from the Marketplace depot.

The boats from OKW and SSR dock at the Landing, which puts you much closer to the PH pedestrian overpass. The Port Orleans boat docks at the Marketplace, right next to the bus depot. If you're arriving at the Marketplace, you could take the water taxi to the Landing during its operating hours, but that of course would likely add time to your trip.

To each his own, I suppose.

For me, spending an extra $15 bucks to save an hour of my time is well worth it - particularly when I'm on a vacation that I'm paying several thousand dollars for.

Garden Grocer has a $14 delivery fee and a $40 order minimum. If you don't want any food, you could have toiletries or sunscreen or something else delivered that you would normally buy at home before you go anyhow. But if you literally can't think of anything else to add to the order, an Uber ride to and from POFQ to the Hess by BWI is quoting $4-6 each way.
