We were cleaning Matts fishtank and we were ready to put the 3 fish back in the tank when I noticed there were only 2 in the bowl. My husband and I were looking at each other in such a state of panic. Then in walks Spencer our cat:( We were looking everywhere for Silver the missing fish while Spot and Mickey anxiously awaited returning to the tank. DH looks under my sons dresser and there, on his side, lay Silver, lifeless:( My husband just put him in a cup of water and he floated up to the top.

We explain to Matt what had happened and he actually took the news just fine, thought it was hysterical that he jumped out of this bowl on top of this 5 drawer dresser. He did ask if he was an angel now and was going to watch out the window until he flew by up to heaven. He said Silver was his favorite, but now he would like Mickey best. We finish putting everything back into the tank and Spot & Mickey are now swimming about checking out the new little houses we got for them.

I take the cup off the dresser and here Silver is swimming all around:jumping1: We were all just totally amazed and so excited!! Guess he was just shocked, but he is now reunited with his brothers in the tank:D

And our little boy is sitting in his room watching is favorite fishie swim again with a great big smile on his face!

WOW! You are lucky but I'm thinking Silver is the luckiest. I'm glad he's back with his friends, again :)

Congratulations!

LOL, that has happened to us so many times over the years! I refuse to flush or bury any fish/animal until there has been a really long waiting period.

We have a water frog that my DS bought home from preschool last year. I really cannot believe the poor thing is still alive! One of our cats loves the thing and is always trying to eat it. She was almost successful a few times before we finally found a safe spot for the tank. (We tried so many different places for the poor thing before we found the spot he is now!) We really thought he was a goner when we came home one night, about a week after we got him, and found the tank knocked over and the frog hanging out of the cat's mouth. The stupid cat just looked at us like "what's up?" I guess she didn't think we would notice or something  Anyway he did live and he's almost coming up on his 1 year birthday. (Which brings us to the next problem, having a birthday party for a frog!)

A couple of years ago, my parents were visiting and wanted to buy the kids an aquarium and some fish. The kids loved the mollys, so that's all we got. A few months later oldest DS said he saw a little baby fish in the tank. DH told him he was "full of mud" - there couldn't be a baby fish in there because fish lay eggs. Well, a couple of days later, I looked in there and said, "Hey, there's a little baby fish in there!!!"

This is when we learned Mollys are live breeders.

And quite active breeders if the conditions are right, which apparently they are in our tank. ::yes::

In two years of owning the tank, we've never had to pay for any more fish!:hyper:

This afternoon just before we were heading out for dinner, I noticed that Silver did not look to well. He was swiming upside down in his tank and would just stay to the bottom and then eventually floated up to the top.

We did tell Matt, and this time he really really cried. It absolutley broke my heart. We burried him in the backyard. I know its only a fish, but it was my 4 year olds fish, and he was just so sad.

He wanted to go get a new fish so after we went and he got to get a new puzzle at Toys R Us for being such a big boy, we took him to Pet Smart and he picked out 2 new fish. We know have Spot, Mickey, Pumpkin and Tiger.

He seems to be feeling better:(

what a bunch of high and lows your son went thru today, and I know its worse for mom and dad

I'm really sorry to hear that! Even if he was "just a fish" he was still important to your family, especially your son. It sounds like he's handling it well.

Best wishes for the new fishies!
