Can we swap guests during stay?

We are thinking about a 9 or 10 night trip, in which my immediate family would be there the first 5 nights (total of 4 guests), then my husband and son would leave and two or three other family members would join us for the last 4/5 nights (total of 4 or 5 guests). We would reserve a one-bedroom (that accommodates 5) and never exceed occupancy. Could Disney swap out the guests mid-way, or would I need to make two separate reservations -- which would leave us "homeless" for much of our transition day?

I'm pretty sure the front desk can do that. I know for sure they can add people on mid-trip so I don't see why it would be any different to remove and add some folks. There *might* be an issue changing out the primary name on the reservation, so maybe set yourself as the primary name just to avoid that being an issue. Member services can swap the primary name for you.

There may be a problem on the cross-over day, where 2 are leaving, but are valid until midnight and you add 2 or 3 more. You will technically have 6-7 in a room for 5 max.

I have tried to add guests mid-stay, and was told by the front desk at BWV, that they cannot modify guests for a stay on points, only Member Services can.

Hmm... yes, that could be a problem. I may need to make two separate reservations.

Thank you for sharing your experience. Were you able to modify while you were there by calling Member Services?

I did not attempt to. My friend was only staying in my room for one night, so it wasn’t a huge deal for her not to be listed on the reservation.

I would make them as two reservations and then have MS note on the 2nd one that some guests are continuing on the second reservation and have them list that and to request a stay in the same room for both groups.

When you get there, mention to the front desk that you have back to back reservations and whether they were able to keep you in the same room. If they did not they may be able to fix it then.

I asked member services and they told me it had to be done at the front desk :confused3  The front desk did do it for me, though (at WL)

That's a good point. Perhaps just make 2 bookings with the right people and see if DVC can link them. That might be the best way.

Excellent advice! That may be the way to go. Thank you. :)

Why is swapping necessary? As long as the number of occupants don't exceed the maximum allowed, why would one need to modify the reservation?

Well, I would prefer to have all names on reservation during their stays for room keys, etc. I cannot put all names on at once because there would be 6 or 7 names (exceeding occupancy), even though there wouldn’t be more than 5 guests there at one time.

We added people as it became obvious they needed their own room access, other than that, we didn't bother. Our daughter use to live in Fl and she'd join us on the weekends so we'd get a car tag for her but didn't usually bother with adding her to the room. I think some places, BC ?, only the people in the room could use the main pool.

If each person is planning to use their own magic band, then I supposed. If it's just a key card, can't it be handed to the next person?

If they want to use DME, assuming this Is 2021, they need to be a registered guest.

Disney requires all guests to be registered.

We could certainly work around this without changing the reservation, but I’m a rule follower!

This trip will probably be 2021 and 2022, but new guests arriving in 2022 so no DME. I would like everyone to be registered guests.

At VGC we have swapped out guests mid stay before without issue, just go to the front desk and let them know. It was easier when we did it at check-in though, we told them certain guests would be there through a specific date and others would be there from that date onward. They then issued room keys for all guests up front with the appropriate dates on them.

I have added guests midstay at BWV front desk.
However the last time was about 5 years ago.
And they he addition did not go over occupancy.
