Can the Republicans Win in 2008?

Several top republicans, while stopping short of saying it's impossible, seem to think their chances aren't all that good.

Anyway, this is an interesting article (especially to a center-left favorer like me), but a word of caution: you just may have to apply disinfectant after reading the conversation with Tom DeLay. :scared:

Here's a very telling quote from the piece (spoken by a conservative): “This President has strengths and weaknesses, but he has a major character flaw, and that’s that he will brook no criticism and his people won’t, either. And the whole Party gave in to him on that.”

Yes, it's possible. :) It's not a high probability right now, but it's still a possibility, depending on the candidate chosen on each side. :)

I think the only way a Republican is going to see the inside of the WH in 2008 is if they take the tour.

GW and his administration have virtually insured a Democratic victory in 2008.

As much as I'd hate to admit it, I think the Republican's will loose the White House in '08.

I definintely think they can, especially considering Hillary might well be the Democratic candidate. A lot can happen and a lot depends on the candidates chosen.

I don't think it is likely unless the Dems nominate someone incredibly polarizing, like Hilary. I'm bracing myself for the fact that it will likely be a Democrat in office next time. :sad1:

Hillary will be the next president. But it's not a function of this administration "ensuring" it. The pendulum always swings. Sometimes slowly sometimes quickly, but nothing stops it.

Take a look at the canditates on both sides. The democrats have at least 3 viables. The republicans have none. What was the question again?:confused3

I honestly hope the Democrats win in 2008, so no I don't think a Republican can win.

I agree with you about the pendulum swinging. But I really hope that you are wrong about Hilary winning. :scared: I actually think her nomination is our best hope to have another Republican president. But if I'm wrong and she does win... :scared: :scared: :scared: Yikes! I'm hoping for anyone but Hilary.

Considering the screw-ups this administration has committed for the last 6 years - and screw-ups yet to come, unfortunately - and the fact that they don't have a single candidate that appears electable at this point...I'm thinking the outlook is pretty grim. All of their major candidates have serious flaws, and I just can't see any of them winning a general election.

Maybe they have a chance if Hillary is nominated by the Dems, but even then it'd be a tough sell. Between McCain, Guilliani, and Romney, I don't think any of the three have a chance.

Then can we cry about "one party rule..." and the silencing of the minority party?

Yeah, wouldn't that be terrible? A centrist in the white house...how would we ever survive it? ;)

:faint:

I think they could win, depending on the nominations. I think if the Dems put up Hillary or Obama they could lose. I'm really interested in seeing what will happen if Bloomburg steps in as an Independent to mix things up a bit. Personally, I'm really tired of both sides at this point so I have no clue who I'll vote for.

 Only if the minority party is actually being silenced, John. :lmao: But hey...after all, you guys are the ones that invented the 50.000001% mandate. :rotfl: You wouldn't want to be hypocritical, now, would you? ;)

I really and truely look for Clinton and Obana to split the democrats. But I also don't believe the republicans have produced someone worth voting for.
