Can someone tell my why they use ziplock bags

I use them for makeup, and shampoos and pretty much anything that might leak or make a mess in my suitcase. I know some use the large ones and use them as a space bag (put item of clothing in and suck the air out therefore taking up less space in your suitcase). Also use them for snacks in DD's diaper bag.

I am a ziplock freak, I have them in every size.

I put whole outfits for my kids in a bag. Each morning I threw them a bag and they got dressed. It really helped get four kids ready quickly.I also use bags in the diaper bag alot.

I tried them for packing my DDs clothes for our past trip. I do still use them for makeup, shampoo, etc, and organizing that way was very helpful. For the clothes though, I think I'm done with that, other than swimsuits, or an outfit for an overnight bag. It was too difficult for me....and once I threw the baggies outfits in the drawer at the hotel, if we picked a certain outfit, I still had to find socks and underwear for DDs (they don't have 30 pairs of each to pack). And with the weather uncertain in Nov, you had to pack for all seasons.

In the diaper bag - for spoons - clean spoons in one bag, dirty in the other; I put snacks in them that might spill (cups of applesauce, peaches), keep some large ones for soiled clothes, I pack stickers and crayons in one and keep it in the diaper bag with a small coloring book

In the suitcase - I pack the kids socks and shoes in them in the suitcase so they aren't rolling around, I pack my daughter's hair ribbons and barettes in them with her brush and comb, I use them for packing toiletries that might spill

I did a whole outfit in one bag (shorts, shirt, socks) and then it was easy to sort. I also did a baggie of a few 'extras'; nuetral colored shirts and shorts in case we had a spill during the day. I put all swimming gear for him in one (diapers, suit, shoes). I found it helped me to keep all the little kid stuff together without it getting lost among my big clothes.

I went when the weather was warm and put T, shorts, sock and undies into a bag for each child. Then my DH could even dress the kids. I had my DD(6) choose her own outfits so there were no complaints in the hotel. I found it really helpful.

For myself & DH I use Eagle Creek Pack It's.

We had 2 checked bags and I split all our clothes between the 2 bags so that 1/2 of each person's clothes were in each bag. So if a bag was lost everyone would still have clothes.

I use the ziplock bags for many things. With two little kids, they can be lifesavers. I use them in the diaperbag to separate diapers for each child. I keep extra outfits for the kids in them, too.

When packing, I use them for items that can leak such as shampoo, conditioner, lotion, etc.

Also, I use the ziplocks for items that I want to keep clean and separated, like spoons for the kids.

I did this too when we went and I found it to be a great time-saver. Every morning the kids just picked out a bag with an entire outfit in it. This was especially helpful with my 5 year old daughter who fusses over what clothes she wants to wear. She helped me put the outfits together at home so she didn't complain. I also carried around an extra outfit for the kids in my backpack and didn't have to worry about the extra clothes getting wet when we went on some of the wetter rides like Kali River Rapids. When you use ziploc bags you can squish the clothes really small and it makes packing a breeze. I think it was one of the better ideas I got here before going. Off-topic, but another great idea I used from the boards was to carry a container of Kool-Aid mix in the backpack. Instead of paying $2.50 or more for a bottle of soda we just mixed it ourselves in our water bottles. It also helped mask the sometimes yucky taste of the water fountain water in the parks and saved us a lot of money. It was a big hit with my kids.

When DS was an infant I'd keep his meals in ziplock bags: disposable spoon, jar of baby food, disposable bib then after the meal dispose of everything in the ziplock bag.

They're also good for stashing a little fruit from the breakfast buffet for munching on during the afternoon parade!

pens... so they don't leak on the plane

paper... for my kids to play with while waiting, notepads, postcards, flashcards

food... cheerios, fruit, pretzels, etc.

diapers and wipes in my backpack/diaper bag... can easily grab the ziplock with a few diapers and wipes and don't have to drag the entire bag into the tiny bathroom with me (especially when flying... can also then talk daddy into taking kid into bathroom while I watch bags)

snack sized ones... medicine bag full of Motrin, sudafed, aspirin if needed

contact lens case... put my contact lens case in there so it doesn't get dirty or get lens solution all over everything

an easy travel size of wipes without the expensive cost of travel sized wipes

in emergencies, also have used them for wet suits, dirty clothes/sox (!!!) going home, clothes from accidents and sick kids....

OK, I don't use them to pack outfits (I just pack the outfits together, with socks etc. between the pants and the shirt). But I do use them for anything that can spill in the suitcase (shampoo, cleanser etc.) And I bring extras so that in the event someting did spill I have a fresh one for the return trip, plus I put wet umbrellas in them etc.

Ok for Baby I used it to pack clothes so his stuff wouldn't disappear in the luggage- a bag for onsies, a bag for socks, a bag for t-shirts and pj's. same thing for the Toddler except his bags were t- shirts, collar shirts for dinner, dressy shorts, casual shorts, socks and underwear. For the bigger kids it was socks and underwear. I use sandwich bags for my DD's ponytail holders. I use the gallon bags for all the shampoo stuff. ummm what else... I loved having it with us in the parks to hold a frozen washcloth during those hot summer days. It was a great way to cool off baby. Ahhh Ziploc how I love thee. And have you seen the Jumbo bags!! I am thinking they got wind of the packing stuff and decided to bring out the big guns.

Hubby laughed at me when I put anything that can spill in the baggies. Until we go there the first time and the shampoo had leaked. That would have been a huge mess that only took 5 minutes to rinse everything off. HE dosen't laugh now. Especially if you fly those suitcases can get pretty beatup.

Sorry, but I just found this line extremely funny!!

Okay, I used to be the queen of packing the kids clothes in ziplocs. However, now that they are a bit bigger and we can get away with wearing the same thing more than once--think denim jeans for instance--I try to stick with mix and match outfits or at least two shirts, one pair of jeans type of a thing and so this type of packing no longer works.

I do pack snacks for the car in them. Less space than the boxes they come in, but more organized than loose packages.

I packed the outfits in them and it made it much easier to get my son dressed in the morning. But my favorite use for them was to put wet washcloths in with a few ice cubes and carry them around on really hot days. We went in August and being able to cool off with a cold washcloth felt wonderful!

:sunny: When we went to WDW this summer, I used a ziploc bag to hold a washcloth and filled it with some ice cubes from the hotel... As it warmed up throughout the day the ice melted and our washcloth was always cool and refreshing. I didn't wet the washcloth at all in the a.m. and would check it periodically for being too full with h20 and dump a bit out. It was so nice to get a cool wash down on a 95 degree day! You might want to double bag so that if you have a leak it won't matter. We carried the bag in our little fanny pack. :sunny:

I pack my undies in them. That way if security at the airport goes through my bag, I know that no one touched them. Call me crazy but I just don't like it when strangers touch my underwear.
I also use them for packing all the little items, i.e. one for tylenol and that kind of stuff, one for shampoo/soap kind of stuff, etc.
When my kids were little I did the outfit-in-a-bag thing and it worked great, and when we take DGD we put a diaper in a baggie, then put a couple wipes in a snack-size baggie inside it. When it's time for a change you just pull a baggie out of the diaper bag and have everything you need, plus a bag to seal the used diaper in.

We used ziplock bags for some of the above mentioned reasons, and found an unexpected invaluable use for them on our last trip.

I hurt my ankle and it was swelling for a couple of days. I know I *should* have seen a doctor, but I didn't want to take the time to do so during a Disney vacation. I limped along and made the best of it. I used our ziplock bags as ice packs to ice my ankle every time we were at the resort. If you ever need an ice pack and you have a ziplock bag, you're all set!
