I bought a twin sized comforter for my Mom a few years ago. It was to use when she was chilly sitting on the couch. Anyway, it's soft & so warm & it's just perfect for my DS(4) who just went into a big boy bed. (He's a special needs so the crib worked out great until now that he's pottie training.) The only problem is that it has flowers on it. My DH is not excited about his DS having a flowered comforter (which we're using as a blanket) under his "Woody" comforter. (We all love Toy Story in our household!) :teeth:

Anyway, I'm trying to find a twin sized duvet but when I do locate one, it's about $50! I only spent about $20 on this comforter, I don't want to spend $50 for a cover for it. I did purchase a duvet cover for our king sized comforter in our room but the $40 duvet covered a flowered $200 comforter. We use that as a blanket since I purchased all new bedding in a taupe colored damask.

Was hoping someone out there had a good suggestion for me. Please help!

Got a sewing machine? Duvet's are incredibly easy to make - and then he can pick out what he wants from the Fabric Store.

 Okay, now you're going to make me admit in public that I cannot sew. No reflection on my Mom who was a professional seamstress all her adult life, attended & was certified by a Couture school in Paris, France. Nope, can barely sew a button on. Too late to get lessons now too since my Mom went to sew in Heaven.

I understand your tears - My mom is currently doing taxes in heaven, and has been since January 28th of this year (tomorrow is a month! ) Just in time for tax season though... :goodvibes

I cant "officially" sew - but making a duvet would be like making a giant pillow case, I think you could do it! And sewing is in your blood....

Although - dont ask me to do any taxes. I can barely add without using my fingers... ;)

Hey, it could be worse. You could be me and not even understand half the words in your first post!

What is a damask? A Couture? A duvet? And which, if any, are you using as blankets? :rotfl:

Damask is a type of print.

Couture means cutting in french. My Mom went to professional cutting school, so she would create & cut her own patterns.

Duvet is like a big pillow case (if you will) that can go over an existing comforter so that you can just change the look ~ without the expense of buying a new comforter. Unfortunately, I guess I got the comforter so cheap that I can't find the duvet cheaper!

I would like to use a duvet to put over an old flowered comforter so that it can be used as a blanket under my DS's Toy Story themed comforter.

Make sense now? ;) Your post was just too funny! :teeth:

CathrynRose ~ I'm so sorry. I do remember when your Mom went into the hospital & her passing over. I remember posting on your thread too. So very sorry. Nobody like Mom on earth, huh? Keep her memory alive for your children. Sending hugs.

Rose, have you tried looking for a duvet at stores like Ross, Marshalls, or TJMaxx?

Hi Rita!

Yep, sure have & when I do find a duvet, they are no smaller than a queen. I can't even find a full sized one.

I have a feeling either I'm out of luck or my DH is going to have to accept that I have a flowered comforter (which is used as a blanket under a comforter) on my DS's bed! :teeth: No one sees it really....only we do when we put him in bed but otherwise, with the bed made, you can't see the flowered print underneath.

The other issue is that this "blankie" is special to my DS since he knew it was his Meme's (grandma in french). He would drag it all over the house if we let him. :(

Rose,. That's is definitely a very special blankie :goodvibes , I think your DH is just going to have to pretend that he is not seeing flowers. :teeth:

Oh, okay, I get it now. Well, I wouldn't cover it. If it's Meme's and it's going to cost twice as much at least to cover it, and you're already covering it with his comforter, what difference does it make if there are flowers? Just don't talk to dh about it at all. If he's anything like mine, he never goes in the kids' rooms anyway! :confused3

Also, sorry to both of you who lost your moms. I have not yet had to deal with that, and I know it will be the worst time of my life when it comes. :grouphug:

Why not get some fabric and take it to your tailor - he/she can easily sew it up for you. Maybe even make a "window" in it so DS can see his special blankie in it.

I got my comforter cover from Land's End overstock sale.

Here's a solid twin size one for $19.50: Land's End Twin They have it in Sage green, which would go well with Woody, I think!
