How a person can drive the same road 190 days a year for 8 years and then suddenly forget where the landmarks are??????????? :confused3

This morning as I was driving to work I suddenly had this thought that I must have not slowed down in the school zone because I didn't remember slowing down.

So for the next half a mile I argued with myself...out loud no less...that I had passed it no I didn't pass it ...yes I did...finally one of my other personalities...the calm rational one...said, "the school is right before such and such road. You are only at such and so road. This road is before
such and such road so you are not there yet." Then the panicy personality calmed down and agreed that we hadn't passed the school yet.

About 30 seconds after this war among personalities...i passed the school and I didn't even have to slow down because I was running late this morning anyway :lmao:

It's gonna be a long day!! :teeth:

Actually, I can totally understand. My mind plays tricks on me, too!

Just last night, I went out to pick up pizza. I had to drive south on the turnpike to get there, then north to get back home. I usually don't take the turnpike when I go to this particular pizza place, but I wanted to save time. On the way back, I was getting off the exit, and all of a sudden, everything looked different. I really thought I'd taken the wrong exit. It was very disorienting!

In my case, I just think I'm getting old.

This used to happen to me all the time. My job was an hour away from home and I had to be there by 7 which meant leaving my house at 6am.. way to early for me because i'm totally not a morning person. Sometimes i wouldnt even remember the drive to work. Kind of scary but i guess my car had auto pilot and i had some guardian angels.

I go on autopilot all the time when I'm driving. I don't so much do what you did, but sometimes I'll get where I'm going and not even remember the drive. :scared: And no, I don't drink and drive. :) I get lost in my own little private world... :rotfl:

I can see how this can happen very easily. I drive 80 miles one way and believe me, it can happen to anyone;)

I've taken the wrong exit, the wrong direction.... just get side tracked thinking about something...and oops... I missed my turn!

When I was pregnant with my daughter (who is now 19, so this was a long time ago), the last month, for some reason every time hubby and I got in the car, no matter where we were intending to go, we ended up at the grocery store. We would be talking away, and suddenly realize that we were parked in the grocery store lot, with no memory of getting there! I guess we were a little distracted.:rotfl:

My Dh has been known to drive right by our house:lmao:

Yep, I have gotten disoriented on the same stretch of highway that I have driven every day for the past 10 years. I have gotten home and not remembered the drive, I think age & nothing new to lookout are big factors.

Last year I was driving along the highway I took everyday to and from work and got a flat tire. Mind you, this highway is very rural and there are very few buildings, mostly trees and hills that kind of stuff. AND it was around 8:00 at night.

I called my husband I told him I needed him to come out and change the tire (yes, I know I need to learn to do that myself :rolleyes1 ). He asked me...

"Where on the highway are you?"

"I don't know."

"Well, did you pass exit____?"

"I don't know"

"What was the last sign you passed?"

"ummmm"

"Can you see anything to tell me where you are"

"I can see a lighted billboard sign about a mile up the highway but I can't read it." How about you just drive out this way, and when you see a car with it's flashers on, drive to the next exit turn around and drive to me."

Thank god for cell phones.

I find myself driving on auto-pilot sometimes. Especially at 5am on Sunday mornings when I am the only one out on the road. Sometimes I even get ready to go in the morning on auto-pilot. Sometimes I am driving down the road & think to myself "Am I wearing shoes or slippers?" The worse was last week when I reached into my purse while driving down the road to grab my cell & instead pulled out the house phone! :)
