I have both on my reservation. I keep hearing that they are different. I am confused.

Once an itinerary has been posted available for reservations, people start booking rooms in various categories (4A, 9C, 7B, for example). Once a certain percentage of rooms within a category have been selected, the category goes GTY (guarantee). You can still select the category, just not a specific room. DCL guarantees that the room they will assign you is at least the category you booked (or better).

On those cruises that are not selling well, DCL will offer last minute restricted fares (IGT - Interior Guarantee; OGT - Oceanview Guarantee; VGT - Verandah Guarantee). In this case you may only select a TYPE of room, not a specific category. With this type of guarantee DCL says they will assign you to a type of room (for example, Oceanview rooms could be any oceanview, regardless of category).

GTY guarantees you a room in the selected category (or better). There is no discount.

*GT (IGT, OGT, VGT) are last minute discounted rates that require payment in full. These guarantee you the room type only and only show up about 60 days before sailing on cruises that are not full.

How far out is your sailing? Was it required that you pay in full when booked?
Never heard that both could be listed. I would give weight to the VGT, IMO.

It has been posted recently that once you book a *GT rate you will see GTY somewhere on the reservation. That's creating the confusion. If it is a true GTY you will have 7A GTY or 8D GTY showing the specific category you booked as GTY. If you have a VGT somewhere as well, that is the type of reservation you made.

We sail in 22 days. I booked 15 days ago and paid in full. My reservation says room GTY category VGT

*GT rates are additional options that become available. When you are booking a new cruise that is about 60 days out, you have the option to select at *GT rate or an actual category.

Some prefer not to do this - if you must have a category 4A on a high deck, VGT is not for you since you might get a 5E. In this case, it is very probable that you would be offered a GTY 4A cabin.

Also, *GT rates typically are not available when you have a party of 5 since there are very few cabins that fit 5 people.

That is how they are displayed. You paid for a VGT rate. You will be assigned a verandah - Anywhere from a 5E to a 4A or even concierge.

A regular GTY cabin would have shown the actual category selected - ie room GTY category 4A.

Well then you have a VGT rate. You could be assigned any veranda aboard.

Most folks are curious of cabin assignment so they log in often to see if a cabin # has been assigned. It's still possible not to have an assignment until port check-in though. Most have a cabin by 12 days prior though.

Good Luck and enjoy,

Thanks everyone. I am just excited to go and cant wait to get my cabin number. I will be happy no matter what cabin we are assigned.

Originally we planned on booking the carnival sensation. Then we decided Disney inside. We found the VGT rate was only 100.00 more than the IGT. We jumped on that. I will be happy matter what we get. I tend to be a happy person almost all the time.

In November 2011, we booked a VGT for a February 2012 cruise on the Dream. In the e-mail confirmation we received from DCL, our room number was listed this way (copied and pasted directly from the e-mail):

Room #GTY
Category VGT - Guaranteed Oceanview Stateroom with Verandah

VGT is another type of GTY reservation. You are guaranteed a room with a verandah. Likewise, with an OGT you are guaranteed an oceanview room; and with IGT you are guaranteed an inside room. For that cruise, we ended up with a category 4E.

The confusion comes in because "GTY" is most often associated with the situation that several PPs have described, where all or most of the rooms in a specific category have been booked but DCL continues to sell rooms in that category. I've booked one of those as well. In the confirmation from DCL, the stateroom number is listed like this:

Room #GTY
Category 07A - Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom with Navigator's Verandah

In that case, we booked 7A GTY. DCL guaranteed us a category 7A or above. We ended up with a 5A.

FWIW this is the worst case scenario regarding VGT Dream Class cabin assignment IMO. Although I feel DCL is assigning these 2 cabins on deck 5 to staff and crew lately, due to past complaints, IMO.
Haven't read any complaints about these two verandas in ages.

I will say the aft view is great though. And it's only the veranda. First timers with kids are unlikely to spend much time on the balcony anyway, IMO.

Dream and Fantasy cat 7a aft tiny verandas; 5188 and 5688.

This will be our second cruise on the dream. I know we would of been happy with an inside room. We choose the verandah because of the small difference in price. We enjoyed our last room, I think we were 4c or 4b. I would be happy sleeping on a deck lounger on deck 4 if I was allowed. Lol.
