Can Someone Give Me a Quick Education About Discounts?

I booked three rooms at PORFQ, with DDP and Park Hopper tickets for late July. Booked right on the Disney site and did not use the services of a TA. Vacation is for 6 adults and 4 kids.
I have no idea if Disney offers any "discounts" over the summer or where I should even look for any. Any advice to educate me for our first Disney experience? Thanks for your help.

There aren't any discounts out for July right now, they are only out through June 14th. If you watch these boards you will know when the next set of discounts come out. I am not sure how much or what the usual discounts for July are but hopefully someone else can answer that for you.

Also keep an eye out in your e-mail and regular mail for pin codes. E-mail you want to watch for any message from Disney Destinations. Make sure to check your spam folder as well.

Start looking for summer discounts in March. Usually there is a room only discount over mid summer. There is a link on here somewhere about the history of discounts. Maybe trying searching for discount history or something like that,

Keep in mind that discounts are hard to come by at POFQ. If a discount comes out, make sure to price out other moderates to see if you can get a better rate.

Yes, just keep looking....Likely there will be something offered for July.

I think you maybe could get a small one right now if you have AAA, but the standard AAA one is not very much. Usually the general public ones that are offered are better.

Also, paying for DDP in 2013 doesn't make much sense - at least if you want to save moeny. A few years ago DDP wasa good deal, but as it's priced in 2013, it is not really saving any money at all. You shoudl run the math, but I figured that even if we eat buffets, it's not really going to save any thing. We do sometimes like to drink plain water, and we don't eat desserts at every meal- so maybe youa re different. I find the QS desserts to be particularly uninteresting. To make DDP worth while you relaly have to order all the desserts and drinks, and buy the most expensive snacks. If you use you snack credit to buy fruit or a drink ($1.50-ish), you are losing money (snack coupon is worth up to $4 or sometimes even more)

Then there's tickets. You can save $10 per park ticket or more if you buy through an offsite vendor- usually. Unless Disney offers a deal like free dinign or discounted tickets or something- where you have to buy tickets to get the discount. (currently they actually are offering a package with discounted tickets, but that's pretty rare.)

Last, it's also prob on the early side to get all the non-disney travel costs covered- like airfare, rental car - if those are options you are considering. I would start looking now. You may find that there are deals this early. Airfaer prices in particular can really jump around.
