How many points do you get for each one way ticket purchased and used? My account is saying I need 9 more credits for my next reward. How many more must I book to receive the reward? TIA

You need to 16 reward points in a 2 year period to earn a free flight. Generally you earn 1 reward point per flight, however, Southwest does have targeted promotions that earn more reward points depending upon where you are flying into/from. Currently they are offering 2 reward ponts for flying into Dulles(IAD) since they just started service there.

you get 1 point for each one way trip and you need 16 to receive a free trip but you must do this within a 24 month period. You do not get your point until you complete the travel. No travel, no point.

:confused3 So does this mean that my family of 5 taking a round trip earns 10 points? :confused3

no each person gets their own account. The only time you can pick which person gets the point or 1/2 point is with car rentals or hotels.

If you have an American Express card and have that card registered to earn American Express Membership Rewards you can also transfer AMEX Membership Rewards to your Rapid Reward account. Don't remember how many are required to make 1 RR point, but, I needed 2 RR points and DH needed 1/2 RR point (our car rentals always go in his name) and I transferred everything online....only took two days for the RR credits to show up on our RR accounts. As a result, we're flying free to visit relatives on the West Coast next year!!!!

It's not book - it's completed travel by the date indicated
As others have stated, it is usually one point for each one was segment.
Sometimes they offer promos.
If you go the Rapid Rewards area of Southwest.com and click on partners you can see other ways to earn RR points.

Just had to do this for one of my children who was lacking 3 points......it is 1500 AE points to make 1 SW point

Another way to get points is to use the SWA visa. You get extra points after your first purchase (paid), either 4 or 5, depending on the promotion. After that, I believe it's $1=1 mile, and it's either 1200 (or 1500?) miles/per point. If you fly SWA a lot, and you use a credit card for many purchases/year, it's a quick way to get RR trips. :thumbsup2

I fly Southwest exclusively(2-3x a month) and also charge everything on my Southwest Visa credit card.

On the credit card it is $1,200 charged= 1 Rapid Reward credit
$19,200 charged on credit card=16 credits= 1 Free round trip(2 one way tx)

All legacy airlines credit cards you have to charge $25,000 to recieve a free roundtrip tx.

I get more creditsfrom charging than from flying!! :thumbsup2

But as I told a friend of mine if you do not pay off the balance each month you are not getting anything for free.

I should have made the point clearer that the card is great for those that pay it off every month; otherwise, not so great. My bad :sad2: .

No apology needed. That would be "common sense". ;)
