Please let us all know what they say. Do remember that the first answer is not necessarily the same one you'll get next call.iluvflorida8 said:Thanks Dean and Doc!! I will call MS Monday.

That was what I thought and what I remembered people had done from a couple of years ago. I believe the same is true for reservation points. Thanks for letting us know what you found out.iluvflorida8 said:Member Services did allow my transfer of "holding points" to another DVC member with no problem. My points were 2005 UY and they went into the members 2005 UY.

It would be interesting to know if the member who received your points would be allowed to bank them into the next year or even to use them for a reservation more than 60 days in advance - if they treat them like other transferred points where they assume the home resort and Use Year of the account into which they were transferred that might be another way to extend the use of "distressed" points.
Seems one of the benefits of owning multiple contractsw that are not linked, at least for now. In this case MS didn't allow anything extra. There is nothing in the rules that would prevent current use year holding points from being transferred. The other part of the problem is that DVC hasn't come up with a way to track transferred points and I doubt they will.CarolMN said:You have to wonder why DVC even has the "holding account" if you can get around the restrictions just by transferring the points to someone else?
I think the CM who did the transfer was not following policy and made a mistake in the OP's favor. Seems like another case where the computer system is not capable of enforcing the rules.

I disagree that MS didn't allow anything extra. The recipient was allowed to use the transferred holding account points to make a late April reservation. Late April is more than 60 days from now. So the restrictions on holding account points "disappeared" once they hit the recipient's account.Dean said:Seems one of the benefits of owning multiple contractsw that are not linked, at least for now. Carol, I think we agree, just saying things in a different way. In this case the issue is not with transferring but in tracking and handling ALL transferred points. Anyone familiar with the current transfer set up can easily use and abuse the system. You can take any old point and turn it in to a coveted resort for 11 month reservations. You can extend the life of many transferred points, not just holding account ones. And given the complexities of creating a computer system to handle this, I doubt we'll ever see it. All that could be done would be to eliminate transfer altogether which would require a vote of the members themselves.CarolMN said:I disagree that MS didn't allow anything extra. I don't have a problem with transferring holding points, but I do have a problem if the restrictions/rules aren't transferred with them. I agree that DVC is not currently capable of properly tracking transferred points of any kind. I don't think DVC will be motivated to change unless so many people take advantage of the system's "loopholes" that it causes them legal problems.

Since you say a vote is required to eliminate transfers altogether, I assume there is something in the POS that says so.Dean said:Carol, I think we agree, just saying things in a different way. My opinion reading the POS and FL timeshare law is that for DVC to take away perks written into the POS would require a vote of the actual members themselves. I think it also requires a super majority vote ?60%. I forget the exact wording and I'm not at home this week, actually writing this form an OKW 1 BR I got through II as an exchange. But Disney is the proverbial 600# Gorilla so never say never.CarolMN said:Since you say a vote is required to eliminate transfers altogether, I assume there is something in the POS that says so.
Do you think DVC could just add restrictions to transfers without requiring a vote of members? Perhaps only allow transfers between same resort & same use year? I know you aren't a lawyer, just wondering what your opinion is.
