does everyone in your party had to have a package deal?

I kind of remember someone asking this already but can't locate the answer (it's 5 am right now and I need to get ready for work). :)

My son has year pass so he won't need tickets so we were thinking if only I can get the package deal and pay for his room separately? Can we do this?

And also, if not, can we buy dining plan separetly for one person only and share?

When we were at WDW, we were on package deal with the deal and by end of our trip, we had so many credits left over and it was not worth the money.

Since with dining plan, you can use many credits as you want per day until you run out so will it work if we get one CS dining plan to share?

Thank you

Everyone listed on your room does have to have the same (dining, ticket and such).

You can upgrade tickets in different ways for different people once you arrive though.

If you want the dining plan but your son already has tickets, you can book a "ticketless package" (room and dining) and buy your tickets separately. However, even by doing that, every person in the room would have to purchase the dining plan.

The only way to get around this would be to book the package just for yourself and then add your son at check in. However, he would then not be eligible for DME until he is on the reservation and would have to make FP+ selections 30 days prior instead of 60.

Is he in his own room? That's sort of how it sounds. If he has his own room it can be booked separately from the package room.

Yep. If he's going to be in the same room, that's the only way to do it.

You cannot share the dining plan.

The solution to this is simple: book a room only reservation, buy your tickets separately (preferably from parksavers or Undercover Tourist ,) and skip the dining plan. It's so much easier and cheaper.

Yes, I would skip the dining plan altogether. It does come out cheaper without it if you're family are not heavy eaters. We've never been able to justify the cost based on how we eat/snack.

hmmm, I thought I posted something couple of minutes ago here but now it's not here....

Anyway, thank you everyone.

As advised, I think we will just get room only, buy tickets from Parksavers for me, and skip the dining plan.

We were playing around the idea of dining plan because we though we want to try out buffets but maybe it'll be cheaper just to pay.

Don't think you can't do buffets just because you're not on the DDP. We don't so the dining plan anymore, it just isn't economical with our one of boys being a Disney adult. We still do a few buffets. Just the QS plan would cost our family over $1,500 in food this year. There is no way (even with our 3 TS meals, 2 are buffets) we will be close to that number. We also buy Disney gift cards at Target and save 5% to help keep our costs down. Go, have fun, eat where you want, don't worry about if you have the DDP or not.

Target give 5% off on gift cards? I thought I read somewhere people were buying Disney gift cards to save but when I try to explain to my son, I couldn't think of "how it was saving" by buying gift cards. DUH, it's because of 5% discount!

In April because we were trying to justify the dining plan cost, we try to pick most expensive items from the menu so sometimes we ate stuff we didn't really want. Only thing that was worth it was snack credits at EPCOT at food kiosk during F&G. LOVED those Shrimp and grits!

Just to clarify .... is he getting his own room? That would change the answers.

Also look in to Tables in Wonderland for him for dining/drink discounts, assuming he's old enough.

Yup, you have to use your Target red card to get the 5%; we use our red debit card so we are still using cash to buy them (basically).

Hi,

No we will be sharing room. He is an adult. :)

Okay when you said "pay for his room" I thought you might have a chance to do what you want.

If he doesn't have a Tables in Wonderland card with his AP, maybe check it out and see if in 13 mos he can make it worth his while.
It takes 20% off meals, drinks and alcoholic drinks. Once he has it, it will be good the full 13 mos even if his AP expires.

I have it and it's a way better deal for us than DDP.
Getting a discounted room on one trip can often offset the cost of it.
Then I can eat how I want instead of ordering things I don't want.

I'm not a dining plan person, but don't just take peoples' word for it that the plan won't be useful for your situation. Maybe it will be. Run the numbers. There are websites out there to determine if it's worth it. If you're going to do a bunch of buffets it might be. (though there are heavy rumors that several character meals are going to 2 table service entitlements, which seriously waters down any usefulness of the plan for buffets)

If it actually would be useful for your trip....I think someone here mentioned the ticketless package. Since one of you has an AP, call in to see what that would cost for your trip.

Agree. Crunch the numbers with YOUR EATING STYLE.

We don't do character meals and minimal buffets. We don't eat dessert at QS locations. We don't order soft drinks just water. We don't use a refillable mug. We will rather get an appetizer and share a dessert. We do enjoy some alcoholic drinks. When have become enjoying meals of all appetizers and drinks.

ALL of those things calculated make the DDP not work for us at this point. BUT it might for you, so crunch the numbers.

Am I confused? I thought the OP talked about getting the QS meal plan. If so, it doesn't cover any of the buffets she wants anyway. She would have to get at least the regular dining plan in order to use it at buffets.

Sorry for the confusion.

We were actually looking into regular dining plan for buffets but if CS plan worked (just buying it for myself), I was going to ask if we can do it with regular Dining plan. Since we can't with CS, it answered my question.
