can non DVC holder check in first?

I have a ressie for November, and I am the DVC member. My guest, staying in the same room, is arriving 3 hours before me at 630pm. Will guest services allow her to check in first and have access to the room? If they do allow it, do I need to check in when I arrive at 930pm or can I go straight to the room?

They will allow it if their name is on the reservation. You will not have to check in.

They can check in. In the KTTW days, charging to the room would not be activated until you went to the front desk.

I'm not sure if a front desk visit is needed with Magic Bands.

For now, you must visit the front desk or a CM with an iPad to complete the actual check-in process even if you've competed on-line check-in.

Disney is testing a self check-in process that would allow you to skip the front desk completely. The test is only for arrivals between 6/16 and 6/28 at select resorts and appears to only be for those with a US address as you must have received your MagicBands prior to arrival.

Thanks everyone for the replies. My friend is on the reservation. Next question--can we assign her credit card to her MB and my cc to mine for separate charging purposes?

We were there in May and DD checked in, she was on the reservation but not a DVC member. DH and I did not check in and were able to use our magic bands for everything. I did do the advance on-line check in.
