Can no planning still be fun?

Hi, I'm heading to the Orlando area in March and was thinking of going to MK once or twice. Staying offsite and currently have no set plans for activities. My question is, is it possible to decide the days we want to go when we're in Orlando (thinking of weather) or should I be doing my planning and booking at 30 days out? Or, in other words, have people had an enjoyable time NOT prebooking their FPs and just "winging it"?

Depends on when you're going and how particular you are about what you want to ride. We went down in Oct, (so mid level crowds) the night before I was able to change a lot (7 people in my group). The day of I could change basically nothing. The earlier you can decide the better. you can always move your fp if you decide the day doesn't end up working.

That will all depend on you. We went on July 30th with no prior plans other than a breakfast reservation. We had a blast.

Thanks! I appreciate your feedback and the good news. I think we will just chance it. I'll just keep my fingers crossed that I won't end up in a 2hour line up for 7DMT!

Go there at open or in the last half hour of the park closing and you should be good.

We are pretty laid back vacationers. While I like to stay busy I don't like having to plan every single minute. We have been known to play bus roulette to pick our park for the day. But we go on average once a year so missing something isn't a big deal. This past trip was for four days in God awful heat and mostly we just visited characters. DD wasn't very into the rides. It was still Disney and still fun.

You will probably end up in a 2 hour line for 7DMT, but that's just part of the Disney tradition I guess! LOL

Even when we have all of our FP+ set, we sometimes just don't go if we feel like doing something else.

I would wing it and just have fun! :)

I love the idea of bus roulette :rotfl: I hope you don't mind if I steal this idea in the future, so much fun!

Well I waited for 2.5 hours for the Harry Potter ride when it first opened, so I must be a sucker for long line punishment. At least there is always people watching to do.

DBF and I went for a day trip about a month ago. My parents have a condo about 2 hours and 15 min away and he said he wanted to go. He'd never even been to Florida so I looked online at the weather and crowd calendars and decided we'd make the trip 2 days later. We bought our tickets at the TTC and headed to MK around 11am. Being a seasoned Disney traveler, I knew we needed to go book our FP asap so I chose the 3 mountains. Then we went to ride POTC standby. It was about a 20 min wait. We were walked around, ate, rode HM standby... about 30 min wait. And our fast pass things. We also shopped a lot. Then upgraded to PH at TTC around 4 and headed off to DHS. We rode ToT and RnR standby. We pretty much walked onto ToT and RnR was a 30 min wait. Then we went to Epcot and got seated walk-up at Rose & Crown and watched Illuminations. We had a blast and would do it again in a heartbeat.

That being said... next time we go to Florida, we will probably book our tickets in advance to allow for more planning, but you asked if you could still have fun and not plan. Yes!

You are more than welcome to! The only rules were it could not be the park we were at the day before and couldn't be Downtown Disney. We usually have an AP so we could still park hop to our dinner reservations.
