Can it FINALLY be true?????

OK, first off to address that original rumor. There's one thing in there that's blatantly not going to happen...they certainly would not convert the show back to the OLD Tiki Room for a short time and then convert it AGAIN to the new Tiki Room. Clearly one or the other would occur. Not both.

I am a huge (original) Tiki Room fan. And while I pretty much loathe the "Under New Management" version, I have consoled myself with the little moments of the show that are leftover from the original. I have decided that I prefer that there is some version of the show that is awful than none at all...so that being said while my first choice would be a return to the original, I would welcome a different version as well. Though I am so not a fan of Stitch - if it meant Iago was gone - I would be all for it. The greatest flaw (besides Iago) is that the re-production made the show feel very dated to the ninties (due to the musical cues they chose). The original had a more timeless feel.

I've seen both the old and new Tiki Room shows, and while hokey, it's part of our WDW experience. And so is the music. While change is good (in most cases), I'm not so sure Stitch has any business being in Adventureland (but don't know how they incorporated him into that show in Tokyo either). Now, if they wish to do something else with SGE, then so be it. We have seen both versions of that attraction as well, and have to say that the presence of Stitch didn't do much for it. I would hope they'd use the SGE spot for some other Stitch related ride/show, and keep him out of Adventureland. Anyway, just a rant from a traditionalist, please NO flames!:hippie:

They rationalize Stitch's presence in Adventure Land because the movie took place in Hawaii which is the same setting as the Tiki Room (Tropical Island).

It's sitting right there in Disneyland waiting for you. :goodvibes

No reason for DL and the MK to be mirror images of one another. If Disney is going to invest money in altering the MK attraction, better to move it forward to something different. Just make sure it's good!

I think the same thing. I prefer the original to the current version at WDW (though I don't hate it and still see it every trip) but they don't need to bring the original back. The Stitch version may be a fail, and I can think of better refurbs then a Stitch version, but I wouldn't mind seeing them try something new as opposed to reverting to the original.

If I want to see the original I can just get on a plane heading west instead of heading south and it doesn't really cost much more...problem solved.

Ok, I can see that. But I still think he would be WAY out of place there. Just MHOP.;)

Before I make my main point, let me first say that my first visit to WDW was in 2004 so I've never seen Allien Encounter. We own all of the of the Lilo and Stitch movies. If (when) they remove SGE I will actually (please forgive me :worship::worship::worship:) miss it. We do it at least once per trip into MK and love it. I may be the only person on this board and I may need a 12 step program (Hi, My name is Ed and I love Stitch's Great Escape...."Hi Ed") but we truly love it; as hard as that may be to believe for some people. (There, I said it in public).:goodvibes

With all of that said, the current show in the Tiki room needs help.

LOL, I guess if people haven't seen the original AE they wouldn't be as likely to hate SGE. Never thought about that before, funny...
Sorry you never rode Alien Encounter though, that was an experience. It was kinda of funny and goofy yet the suspense when the lights go out after watching the Alien escape... total pin drop (with an entire room full of people!).

FWIW, he's way more in place than the Gilbert Gottfried bird.

Well they have the Aladdin carpet ride in Adventure Land and that is not out of place. I guess Diego is best placed in that land. The movie took place in a dessert but at least he's a parrot so that's tropical. The Lying King bird is the one that is more out of place I would say.
Just because his voice bugs you...

I think Iago is there because he is a bird (as is Zazu) so it fits with the tropical bird theme.

Sure, they're birds. But they're from nowhere near the tiki, tiki, tiki regions of the world.

I'm not saying they're badly out of place. They're not. But I don't think Stitch is less out of place when he's not a bird, because his plot does take place in a location related to the attraction.

While it was a GREAT ride, AE really didn't fit in MK at all. It is understandable that they removed it. It was truly scary and not a ride for kids (the alien "kills" a maintenance worker and his "blood" sprayed you!). AE would fit right in to DHS though. I have never ridden Sounds Dangerous in HS, so I have no idea if it would fit in that building, but that would be a good place to stick it.

SGE would be a lot better (though still kind of so-so) if they would just get rid of the chili dog burp.

Well AE was futuristic so I wouldn't totally rule out Tomorrow Land. It was scary and the blood spraying was intense for children. CMs did their best to warn people though.
I'm not sure about putting it in DHS as that is more a Cinema based theme and AE didn't really have any production values to it. Put an Alien from Alien/Aliens in the tank and maybe it would fit (with a slight script rewrite).
However, maybe Epcot would be the best fit for AE? Lump it in with Mission Space and make a pavilion out of it. I'd hate to see good rides go just because they are too scary for children.
Sounds Dangerous has no future theme and would not work. It isn't really much of an attraction so it would be a waste of good space any way.

we were there in Aug and SGE monitors were inside were blurry or not working. maybe not fixing them is a sign of it to be going.:confused3

:rotfl:

There's a LOT of attractions that are being replaced, if thats the measurement we're using

I wish they would bring the original show back. It was always a favorite (one of the birds has my family nickname and I loved seeing her up there). "In the Tiki Tiki Tiki Tiki Tiki Room" is a Disney classic and needs to be kept!

My first and only ride on AE was when I went to WDW in the 3rd grade for the pop warner national cheering competition. I don't remember that much warning of how scary the attraction was. However, I do remember being scared out of my mind and crying along with about eight other kids as we left the ride. I think the fact that there wasn't enough warning was a possible downfall to the ride. Now that I'm older, I think it would probably be an awesome thrill ride to have at Disney. AE could possibly fit into Epcot, but I seriously doubt they will ever bring it back. And I think what quikah was trying to say was that AE could replace Sounds Dangerous at HWS.

As for the Tiki Room, I like both versions. But nothing beats the original. And why is everyone hating on Zazu and Iago? haha

Ah...
Children crying because they were scared out of their wits, the sign of a truly great ride!
There were warning signs for AE and I think there was also a blurb about it on the pre show monitor. When I went through the CM was working the line before going in was personally warning all the parents. I don't think anyone less than teenage went in.
However, I don't think the signs were real obvious and blurb on the show was sort of humorous if I remember. Some people might not have taken in seriously if the CM wasn't approaching people. Of course maybe all you kids were being snotty and he let you slip?
Thanks for clarifying the sounds dangerous thing for me.
I don't hate Iago but can understand why some people do due to his voice. I just hate Zazu because the Lying King was the lowest Disney has ever sunk (and he was in it).

Wouldn't say I was being snotty, like I said I don't really remember being warned except maybe in the little movie sequence. If a CM at the time had told my parents, "Hey, this ride is really scary and has made lots of kids cry." They probably would not have taken me on. I was quite the chicken back then (still am). I was just enjoying my trip to Disney for cheerleading and we decided to try a ride we had never been on and would scar me for life. Just kidding. I love both birds and the tiki room, but can understand the annoyance.

Well crap, I'm sad I missed that now. That sounds kind of awesome.

I don't mind the Under New Management version of the Tiki Room (though I've only seen videos of the original, I've never seen it in person) but I do have to wonder what they were thinking when they made it. Were they not aware of how many people really don't like Gilbert Gottfried's voice?
