can I wear a fanny pack?

I HATE fanny packs I think "yes" they are ugly...HOWEVER I ALWAYS USE ONE when I go to DL or WDW its just easier to manage the small kids with two free hands. I do need to upgrade to a tinkbell pack at least I will be alittle more stylish HAHAHAHA.

I also wear a fannypack, but only at amusement/theme parks! I sometimes actually carry it over my shoulder like a purse. When I was younger and more "hip" I swore I would never use one, but....
For the poster that said she couldn't find one at Walmart, try looking in the sporting goods section. Some places keep them by the bike gear.

Will you be out of place...absolutely not, fanny/hip packs are everywhere at the parks you will see a huge range of people sporting them, grownups and kids.

However, if your wife feels strongly about it then maybe you should just not wear one. Of course if she was just kidding around and could care less, go for it. I know if I told my hubby they look ridiculous he wouldn't touch it, we use a backpack, but to each their own.

It's not the bag itself in this case. "Fanny" is a VERY naughty word in England and Australia, the type you would never say in front of your Mum!

As for rides, I had a friend who took theirs off on BTMRR, CS, SM and quite a few others because they felt it got in the way, it didn't matter if it was on the front of back. But it might be because of their torso length, it seems the bag hit the bar on many rides.

Really, I have to laugh at the idea that people won't wear them because they're afraid of looking uncool. Now, I am normally a person who is very concerned with fashion, but you're going to an amusement park, not a night at the opera . I would never give up my fanny pack, and I happen to think I look cute in it . I do wish I had a really nice one like my sister's--hers is flat, leather, and I'm sure expensive. Mine is just a Target model but it's soooo convenient. I have our APs, fast passes, my phone, lip balm, sunglasses (when on a ride), reading glasses, and wallet right at my fingertips. I've never had to remove my fanny pack on a ride but have had to remove my backpack purse and adjust my messenger bag, both of which are considerably less comfortable. They just don't work as well, IMO, as a good ol' fanny pack.

How to put this in a polite family way is that it has nothing to do with your bum, but your Aunt Fanny has one. I had several British friends who gasped at the fact we use this a proper name and "polite" term for your bum. It's funny when you see cultures meet with such different results

Several years ago I knew someone from South Africa who was horrified at this term when she first arrived here. She informed us why and we were quite amazed. We had no idea.

For my last trip I bought a Baggalini Wallet bag. It looks like a square purse with a thin strap. It zips around the edge so you can open it up to show the credit card slots and two zippered pockets inside. It is very flat. The strap is adjustable so you can wear it around your waist or across your shoulder. It hung low on my hips and I decided it looked better than a...uhm... pack. It was nice to have my hands free and not having something pulling on my shoulder all day. But sometimes I wore it like a purse. I loved it!

I will tell our grandchildren's mother that she should let her kids know about the different meanings of this word.
Then the kids can decide if they think it is appropriate for their grandparents to be enlightened, or whether it would be more fun to use the word in conversation and fall about laughing at the reaction.
And, I would hope no-one in my family would be bothered by whatever container I use to carry my belongings. If they are, they can stay at home.

I used a hip pack on our first trip and a baggalini messenger bag on the second trip. They both had advantages. We made the kids each wear their own hip pack and carry their own snacks and water bottles, so they could always reach for an emergency snack if they got hungry in line or whatever. We attached water bottles by carabiner clips when we weren't keeping them in the stroller cargo compartment. The clips were a bad idea; made the whole thing clunky and the water bottles banged against your leg. However, the packs were handy for getting on rides-- you just slid them around your waist to the front and held them out of the way of the ride bar till you got it pulled down.

I think I liked the Baggalini messenger bag better. It was small yet had a surprising amount of room to carry water, ponchos, etc. Because the strap was long enough to go crossways across my upper body, it was very easy to just slip one side down over my arm and hold it around my waist to get on rides. When I was little and my mother used to make me wear a fanny pack on vacations to DL and WDW, I often swiped it around and wore it above my butt instead of wearing it in the front. Of course, this was when I was 5. If I was to wear a fanny pack now... which I still won't, it would be in the front.

I think wearing it with the pack to the rear would defeat the purpose, and open you up to being pickpocketed (or pick-fannied, or pick-packed or whatever).

I don't know anyone in the parks. Not a soul. So yeah, I wear one. I keep my Disneyland passes, fast passes, small amount of cash, credit card, driver's license, room key, cell phone, camera, spare battery in it. It is very lightweight. I don't have a wallet, I use a little plastic card holder (flips open and has a card slot on each side) to put the Disneyland passes and credit card, cash, etc,

Having just lost 9-10 pounds and knowing the HUGE diff. that that makes for me personally, in terms of energy and speed of walking, I'd think it would be hard to load up on a heavy bag to take into the parks, knowing it could slow me down and tire me out faster.

Speaking of getting tired out - I also like to rest my hands on the front of the pouch when standing in line. It's more relaxing.

I LOVE that I can quickly feel around on the front of the pouch for my credit cards, etc. and also like that everything is right in front of me.

I say, go ahead, geek out, and geek out happily.

Just remember to take it off for the photopass pics.

I agree. I think carrying a purse is so inconvenient, and anything over my shoulder is uncomfortable, so a fanny pack is much more my style. I think they're much better looking than Crocs (I know I know - different things - but still, a lot of people wear them and they're ugly). I like fanny packs, even though I haven't worn one in awhile.

Now here is the real question: Where does everyone wear their fanny pack?

On the actually fanny? On the hip? Or do you wear it in front?

I wear mine on my hip - more comfortable
