Can I Vent, problem with our room at CBR! UPDATE 09/03/08 pg 9

I don't know how many times the OP has been to Disney, but if she didn't pay any additional $ when the TA told her they changed her reservation to a preferred room, she might have assumed they would pay the difference at check in. (Those of us who book frequently know we have to pay additional $ when we upgrade, but those who don't go often, or haven't previously made changes to their reservations might not even think they have to pay extra up front.) I am sure when the TA told her the changes were made, the OP assumed the TA would have asked for any additional $ due at the time of the change.

I think people are straying from her point. Yes, she knows there is a lot of walking at WDW, which would be more of a burden than than the walk from their room to the food court. Yes, she knows there are refrigerators in the rooms to keep food. The point is, the TA told her the changes were made, and they weren't. None of the other details matter. The TA messed up. That is the bottom line. These things happen, but it stinks when you are the one it happens to. DU seems to be trying to fix the situation. I hope they are successful. :tink:

Keep in mind, just having a preferred room does not mean you'll be near the food court/lobby etc. Many preferred rooms are waterview rooms that might be way out there. You can get a standard room that might be close to the food court, you just have to ask for that as a preference.
This is not correct when referring to CBR.

At CBR, "preferred location" is a specific room category that means a room in one of the buildings closest to Old Port Royale; it specifically refers to Trinidad North 31, 32 and 33, and Martinique 24, 25 and 26. These are the closest buildings to OPR, the site of the food court, main pool, shops, etc. At CBR, "preferred location" and "water view" are two completely separate room categories ... preferred location DOES NOT mean water view.

If you simply "ask" for or "request" a room close to the food court at CBR, it's unlikely you'll get it, as everyone who reserved and paid for a preferred location room is in line ahead of you.

At CBR, "water view" is its own specific room category. A water view room can be in any of the 6 villages. A water view room can be pretty far away from OPR ... but by definition, at CBR a preferred location room cannot possibly be farther away from OPR than a standard room is.

I stand corrected!!! Thanks

I have never booked a preferred room, my question is, does preferred always mean closer to a food court/bus stop? I know you do pay extra, but what do you get for that?

My understanding of the system is when you book a regular room, i.e. standard, you get what you get. Your can request two beds, certain location, but there is no guarrantee of that.

The preferred locations are Martinique and Trinidad North. They are closer to the food court/main pool/marina. You pay more for these locations. I, personally, wouldn't pay the extra money for a preferred location. That being said, I have a preferred location booked for our upcoming trip but that's just because that's all they had available.

I have had really good luck making requests for standard rooms. I mostly just request an upstairs room facing a courtyard and I got that both times.

OP: I just want to add again, that I am sorry this happened. I really think that what will happen is they will find you a standard room, very, very near a preferred area or just across the bridge and thereby as close as preferred. Dreams books a lot of Disney vacations so they have some clout, its still pretty early in the game meaning they have plenty of time to get your room assignment down pat and Disney aims to please. When they can make it right, they almost always do.

And definitely ask to see that breakdown because again, you either paid for something you are now not going to get (to me its like you ordered a steak and got a burger, so yeah, you need to be credited back the difference) or you had a really stupid agent at Dreams who gave you something that couldn't be given away.

To me thats what this post is all about, you were justified in being angry because of a customer service mistake. I have travelled plenty with my mom who had cancer and my dad who has diabetes and I know firsthand, you have a lot of details to work out. You did everything right, somebody else messed up.

Some of this other stuff is so off topic!:rolleyes1

Amen! Well said!

The OP stated that she only paid in full 1 month ago, so if a preferred room was charged she probably paid it with her final payment. Not getting another bill in addition to what she paid.

marimario, there is a lot of good advice in here regarding CBR, mostly from CleveRocks. I hope that everything works out for you and your husband and I am sorry to hear that he has learned that he has limitations. I wish the best for each of you!

Thanks you, I'm trying my best. ;)

Than you, I knew I didn't have a language barrier. You understand me, why others didn't?

First thing is to send you some :wizard: so your trip goes flawlessly and you and your family have a great time. I think in the end it will work out.

Personally, I think it's more important to be close to the bus stop than the food court/lobby. You could consider renting a car which will cut down on your walking a bit, especially if you have a handicapped plackard.

Even if you are put a ways out, I'm positive you'll be fine. While it may not be perfect don't let that get you down. Que seas feliz y disfrutas tu viaje a Disney. No te pongas enojada.

And the suggestion here to try to switch to Port Orleans French Quarter is right on, but I have a feeling that going during free dining means all the rooms are probably full.

Gracias!! Not estoy enojada solo un poco frustrada.;)

Yaaaaa pues, todo va a salir bien!!! Y de verdad, si no consigues algo cerca al comedor, consigas algo cerca al paradero de los busings (no se porque usen esta palabra en el Peru?) porque aveces el camino puede ser largo.

Suerte!!

Other companies might do this but not at most deluxe hotels.
Ah, but most deluxe hotels are not part of a 22,000+ rooms resort property. They're usually individual units - even, for example, the 5,000+ room MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Think of it this way (numbers used for example ONLY): Would you rather have five of the ten day shift Front Desk staff at the front desk, checking in (or out) Guests - or would you rather have five of them at the desk and five in the office answering the phones? Multiply that by seventeen resorts - why do you need 85 Cast Members in offices around the property, answering the phones for their specific resort, when you can have twenty CMs in a call-in center answering calls property-wide, and 150 (instead of 85) CMs working face to face with the Guests?

He asured me the medical needs room sometime are in better location than preferred room.
There isn't necessarily a "this room"; but using Pop Century as example - you'd need to look at a map, but there are preferred rooms in the 70s buildings because they're close to the main building, but the rooms backing up to these rooms are Standard - yet closer to that same main building than some Preferred rooms in the 60s.

The internet has created a needless pursuit of the "perfect" room.
:thumbsup2:!!!!!! I know this is heading away from the original topic, but I find the "what room should I request?" threads interesting. Yes, in the OP's case there are issues that make location requests important - but in many, many instances the threads imply, "I've never stayed there before and nothing's really important to me except a bed, but I see other people making requests and so I think I need to make requests too - but I don't know what to ask for" :teeth:

Regardless, if I put down a deposit for a room with two beds, I am paying for a room with two beds.
Nice try. Double beds is not a bookable category. You did not put down a deposit for a room with two (or any, really) beds; you put down a deposit for a room, period.

Respectfully (vs., for example, critically), it's probably due to the wording you use sometimes - for example, you said a couple of times (something like) "My husband does not care to pay for preferred", which, to most of us means he does not want to pay for preferred; you later cleared up the confusion - apparently, the way most of us would have stated that is, "My husband does not care about paying for preferred".

Standard room- 2 double beds
King- one king bed
Water view
Preferred location

These are the bookable categories at CBR.

For 2009 you will have the Pirate rooms. Standard- two double beds, or Water view

To the OP -- I hope whatever resolution you get it's the right one for your family.

For those straying off topic and baiting the baiters let's keep on focus on the original issue brought up by the OP.

The biggest issue I see here isn't a Disney one but the agency's in which they need to fix. It isn't Disney's fault what the agency did/said... somehow the agency has to find a solution for the OP at no more the price for the pref room at a mod. Even if it means they have to put her in a Deluxe to give her what she needs/equiv to what was promised any cost above the what the price of the pref room in my eyes should be covered by the agency as she has it in writing what was promised.

GOOD LUCK! :wizard:

I agree this is a Dreams Unlimited issue and they are the ones that need to make sure it gets fixed and if there is some sort of refund due or some sort of compensation (maybe a discount or free night) they need to provide it. And it looks like they are doing everything they can to make the situation positive for the OP. So that's all good. I just want to again stress that I think she (OP) is more than likely owed the difference for all those room night differences between standard and preferred.

I also want to say, I have used Dreams probably 10 times and I have never had this happen. So I can vouch that they are a first rate TA. I just think they messed up and that happens. And when it happens to someone personally, they have every right to be peeved and upset. I mean, given what a Disney vacation costs, you want the fundamental things you paid for to be right.
