Without everyone thinking I'm a terrible person? It's about Christian...

I hate walking with Christian. There! I said it.:sad1:

Chrisitian is my 14yo very mentally handicapped son. He's a full care kinda kid. He's taller than me and stronger than me. He's kinda off-balance and waddles back and forth when we walk. He pushes and pulls me the whole way and when we're done I feel like I've been beaten up.

We usually have a nurse who comes in to help in the evenings, but he was sick tonight. Christian is in the routine of eating dinner and going for a 2 mile walk with the nurse. DH is out of town, DD16 was at dance for 2 hours. Christian was being a pest and getting into things, so I took him for a walk myself. He loved it--there are a lot of Christmas lights in our neighborhood. BUt now my back and neck are killing me from him jerking me around for 45 minutes. I may have to call my massage therapist in the morning. Thank goodness DH is coming home tomorrow or Wednesday.

You know, I don't like to think about Christian's future too much but tonight I find myself considering just how long are we going to be able to do this.:headache:

I have no advice but just wanted to say you are welcome to vent here. All parents feel this way about their kids at some point so you aren't alone. Your son has special challenges and it takes a lot of your energy to give him what he needs. He's a lucky guy to have such a good family.

I do not think you are a terrible person...just a tired one!

TC:cool1:

I'm sorry you're having a rough time today. Get some extra rest tonight and maybe things will look more manageable tomorrow?

I hardly think that makes you a horrible person.:goodvibes You're being honest and I'm sure it is a lot of work. Let your DH take over when he gets home to help you out. Take a nice bath and relax.:thumbsup2

Nice of you to take Christian out for walk and I am sorry that you are now sore. Is there time for you tonight to have a warm bath?

We have a friend that sounds in a similar situation to you and their son uses a walker. It helped with his balance, he enjoyed pushing the walker and it meant that his mum's wrists got a break from the constant dragging. Just a thought!

Big hugs

dearie.. you did not say that you hate Christian... you said you hate WALKING with Christian.... so in my book that is AOK.. totally cool...

alrighty then..... :goodvibes

oh and by the way... you did a good thing tonight, you did what a mom does ... you gave of yourself for the benefit of your child.

warm shower, snuggle up in the bed ... nighty night

 no way are you a horrible person.... you are only human! i am a single mom to two boys, one of whom is autistic, so i have had many, many days of sheer mental and physical exhaustion similar to yours. try to get in some "me" time tonight.... and thankfully the day is just about done!

Thanks ya'll. I was a little afraid to 'fess up but I can't burden my daughter with this and DH is visiting his elderly mother in the nursing home in FL. I don't want him to worry. I think I will go get a bath and go to bed with my book. Maybe a good sleep will make me feel better. :flower3:

You have every right to vent a little (That was just a small one!) I can't imagine the time and energy it ust take. You sound like a wonderful mother! Your DS is lucky!

you are a GREAT mom, please don't feel guilty. christian is lucky to have you. he obviously knows he can count on you, and that means the world to a child. you deserve a long, hot bath and any other indulgences you can think of. we all feel overwhelmed, exhausted and underappreciated sometimes-you're certainly entitled to a whine here and there. i pray the rest of your night is peaceful.
