I have never made this before but a friend asked me to bring it as a side dish for dinner tomorrow night. Can I make it today and just reheat it at her house? Just wondering....thanks!

Yes, I do this all the time because it is so easy to make ahead!

When I read your question, I thought you were going to ask if you could make a green bean casserole today and hold it until Thanksgiving - that was going to be a "no". :rotfl:

Yes, but I'd put the topping on right before baking if you want it to be crunchy on top.

yep - I'm sure there are enough sodium and preservatives in the soup to hold it a good long while in the fridge.

I love green bean casserole and always get it to myself since my DH and kids won't eat it!

Fortunately I do know that much!!!;)

I'd make it ahead, but leave off the topping, adding that when you reheat at her house.

Make sure she'll be able to accommodate your reheating though. Would it be better to finish it up at home before the dinner, so that you aren't in her way for finishing the rest of the meal?

I think green bean casserole is one of those things that always tastes better reheated anyway, like chili.

I'm going to disagree about making it ahead of time. The best part of green bean casserole is the crunchy onions on top and how they contrast with the creamy beans. If you make it ahead of time, the onions will be nasty and soggy. It only takes 2 minutes to stir together, and any time you might save by baking it part way (before you add the onions on top) will be lost by chilling/reheating it the next day.

When I am assigned this dish for thanksgiving - I cook it part way at home, drive the 15 min. to MIL's house, and then finish it in her oven with the onions.

You can still make it ahead of time and then add the onions just before serving. :)

Yup, make it tonight and add the onions before you reheat it tomorrow. I will suggest using cheese instead of milk, it makes it super creamy....:) We use a sharp cheddar, shredded, in place of the milk. :)
