I bought a candy apple at Goofy's Candy Shop in DTD last night. I had visions of it all day today and planned to have it for dessert tonight. I bit into it, and the candy is all gooey and not at all hard like it should be. I couldn't eat it! We aren't planning on going back to DTD, but if I take my receipt to another store that sells them(like the shop at the front of MK), will they give me a replacement candy apple? I really hate to waste $5.50. It's bad enough the Mickey sugar cookie I bought there was just NASTY.

I don't think you can get a replacement for food that was made correctly and you simply do not like.

You may have a case if the food was spoiled, undercooked, etc. etc.

Personally, I like my caramel apples gooey and not hard, so I would have enjoyed the one you had. :confused3

I suppose you could try. But I sure would feel weird asking for another carmel apple from a different store. *shrug* is it really that big of a deal?

I think you might have had a better chance of getting a replacement apple if you would have tasted it right after you bought it. Who's to say the candy didn't get warm from it sitting around for an entire day?? I thought they were always gooey, but even if they are not, I would say it is too late to ask for a new one.

I agree with this.

I thought they were all ways gooey that is why I avoid them like the plaque

Candy apples are not supposed to be gooey like this. I am talking "your fillings will be pulled right out of your teeth" gooey. The candy on the apple should be crisp. I have had many of them before and this one was totally inedible. I tried, believe me, but it took me 10 minutes to chew one piece of the candy that came off the thing and it was still sticking to my teeth. I bought the apple last night and was in DQ for an hour, sitting and waiting for my party, then we came straight home in an air conditioned car and it sat, wrapped, in an air conditioned house all day today, so not sure how it could have gotten too hot. I have had one like this before from the state fair and someone told me they get like this if the candy is not brought to the right temp before the apple is dipped. I just know Disney is supposed to be great at customer service and I was hoping I could get another one. I wouldn't try to get another cookie, because that was my taste, but this apple was not made correctly.

I guess if it is considered bad etiquette, I will just suck it up and buy a proper one at the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory when I get back home. I actually think it's gross to walk around and eat a caramel or candy apple, which is why I brought it back to the house. It just looks nasty to me when people eat them like that.

All the candy apples I've ever had were gooey and stuck to your teeth. And the time to ask for a refund because you don't like it that way would have been before you left the store.

Like the red stuff on the outside? I never had one that was crisp(not that I would really eat one because well they are gooey and sticky, yes very firm and glassy outside but not crisp.) The apple should be crisp but the coating sounds about right in humid weather. Either way, I wouldnt try to return food unless it was a rotten apple(even then I wouldnt bother esp to a totally different store.)Maybe its not how you like it but doesnt mean its made wrong. Could just be how they make it.
ETA- I just looked it up and read that humid weather will keep it from getting hard. Assuming WDW right now is humid and with an hour in dq and just the normal humid air, that could be the problem.

Now I want a caramel apple with peanuts.

Candy apple coating will start to get gooey if not eaten right away, I made the mistake one year thinking that if I put it in the fridge overnight that it would keep better...wrong! I unwrapped it to have the 'candy' oozing all over the place. If you did not eat it right away I don't believe they will do anything about it.

*sigh* oh I so want a candy apple....can't eat them with 3 capped front teeth :(

That's too bad that you didn't like your candy apple. I don't think they would give you a new one but I guess it never hurts to ask. Hope you enjoy the rest of your trip.

Isn't it the same thing?

no, Candy apples are the red ones with the harder candy coating. Its made by boiling corn syrup and flavoring then coating the apple and letting it cool and harden. Its kind of like when you get to the end of a hard candy and you finally chew it up lol.

Caramel apples are (obviously) caramel coated and usually stickier.

i would describe a candy apple as mildy crunchy and mildly gooey. a caramel apple is all gooey.

i'm a bit baffled about your question...it's great that you are asking on the DIS but why not call WDW and ask? i'm not sure returning defective candy apples is one of those hot topic we see repeated around the boards.

furthermore, what kind of a time frame are you looking at to exchange the said apple?

:rotfl2::rotfl2: That just cracked me up :lmao::lmao:

It was probably hard last night. That is exactly what happens to them when you don't eat them right away. There is nothing wrong with it, they always do that if you let them sit overnight. It is a combination of the moisture in the air and the moisture coming out of the apple.

I love, love candy apples and always get them, and usually can't eat them all and try to keep them till the next day and in 50 years it has never worked that they are still hard. usually soggy and chewy if not liquidy around the edges.

Sorry about that, It is very hard to find candy apples anymore they all want to sell caramel ones.

My apologies for not realizing that caramel and candy apples are not the same thing! I mean this in all seriousness, it's amazing what you can learn on the Dis!

Regardless, I don't think you can get a replacement on partially eaten food that doesn't technically have anything "wrong" with it, particularly after it has been taken home and unwrapped.

Because of the humidity element, it's hard to find a caramel or candy apple in my area until fall when it's cooler and a little less humid. I can imagine that the Florida weather takes a quick toll on an uneaten apple's appetizing factor. :confused3

OP...enjoy the rest of your trip!
