Title says it all! I have been stashing away cash for months, and will have close to $1k for food/spending. I’m not really excited to travel with that kind of cash, and would prefer the convenience of using my band to charge to our room. if I bought a visa gift card with the cash would I be allowed to connect that to my room/magic bands? Thanks,

Not sure if you can connect a GC to your account in MDE, but you can stop down at the front desk and periodically pay off any room and Magicband purchases with that Visa GC....

Hmm that might work. I forgot they don’t charge your credit card for charges until check out. Thanks!

Yw! I think there is a limit though. It isn't necessarily upon check out that your CC is charged, but after a certain threshold is reached. I don't know what hat limit is, but say for example it is $1,000 and you already accumulated $1100 in charges by day 4 of a 8 day stay? They would charge your CC for charges on day 4, not day 8....

No you can't link a GC.
You can stop by the front desk daily/every other day to pay off room charges with a GC as long as you don't reach the spending limit prior to do ing so.
But why bother? Just carry the GC in your wallet and pay with it as you go?
I mean in order to use your MB for charging you have to take the time to tap the mickey head and put in your PIN so why is handing a gift card any more of hassle?

The only place you can do this is at AKL. They are currently testing going completely cashless and will allow you to put down cash or a gift card. But everywhere else, just like others have said, is a no.

Even if you COULD do this you couldn't do it with a Visa gift card. And you can't use them to pay on your room charges. So don't buy one. Buy a Disney Gift Card or buy several $100 Visa gift cards if you don't want Disney ones and then when you are there buy Disney cards. But if you try to use Visa cards they will tie up 20% of the card's value due to the way Visa cards are processed. They hold back 20% as if it was a restaurant and you were going to tip. Disney computer systems are processed just like a restaurant.

We had about $700 in Disney GC for our December trip. I put a Visa on file for room charges as I was uanbelt o do so with a GC. So every few days I went to the front desk to pay down the balance with the GC as they didn't charge the VISA daily. No issue with it. If you're concerned about whether or not this is allowed you can contact the hotel directly.

They put a limit on room charges: $500 at values, $1000 at moderates, $1500 at deluxes, so if you buy some expensive items and have a nice dinner, and then it's not cleared out, the next day your magic band stops working. It would be a very complicated system to automatically attempt to use gift card(s) and then fall back on a credit card.

We always pay off our balance every 2-3 days using GCs and I will also get a printout to verify everything looks good. I much rather do that then carrying the GC around and taking the chance of losing it, where someone can find it and use it. Whereas with a MB you have a PIN for added protection.

The limits went up a few years ago, they are now $1500 for Value and Mods and $2000 for deluxes.

It's right pocket left pocket stuff. But some people like myself like to have everything on a single folio so I know how much I spent all in one place.
