Can I check in if I'm not sure if I'll be cancelling or not?

Our check in date is Dec 12. But my full refund cancellation date is Dec 26. I'm still not sure whether Canada will take cruising off the "avoid" list (thus affecting the ability to be insured), but I don't want to miss out on signing up for stuff if I'm going to be cruising in March.

If I check in, am I locked in or can I still cancel with the full refund if it's within the timeframe?

Check in is 30 days now. So, you would just be signing up for dining and excursions in December. You can cancel until December 26, even if you have booked activities.

Oh, great. Thanks.

Is there still a rush to book certain things like there was in the beforetimes?

Logged in this morning to book and, yes, the cabanas were all gone. But what surprised me was the limited number of excursions available. The one I wanted in Mexico was sold out, probably because a plethora of excursions to the ruins are no longer offered, so the speed boats became the most popular.

No surprise, there isn't a Sub to view the coral reef in Grand Cayman, either. Disappointing, but given it's inside, understandable.

The biggest disappointment was the disappearance of C61, the fishing excursion off Castaway Cay. It is a family favorite. My DH was looking forward to taking our younger DS on his first fishing trip. I booked C02, but it won't be the same.

Anyone ever do the glass bottomed boat off Castaway? I was looking at that for those of us that don't fish. Thoughts?

I dont know who your insurer of choice is, but FWIW, TuGo has updated their emergency medical policy and now covers cruises [https://www.tugo.com/en/travel-insurance/faq/]

Am I covered for COVID-19 during my upcoming cruise?
Yes, TuGo’s Emergency Medical Insurance policy will cover travellers regardless of travel advisory levels issued by the Canadian government.

Currently, "sold out" for excursions sometimes means they have not yet finalized with the vendor whether that excursion will be offered. Many excursions were showing as "sold out" until 1-4 before sailing on our October, when they suddenly became widely available. I think with "bubble" requirements excursion vendors are managing a complicated set of protocols with figuring out which cruise lines to provide the activity for, at which times, and the schedule is all taking place a bit closer in time to the cruise than in the past. Similarly, some cruisers reported they booked an excursion and it was cancelled later. I think right now the thing to do is just check the app regularly if you want something and be flexible.

We must be on the same cruise, March 26 Fantasy. I was surprised at the lack of options for GC also. Neither of the excursions I wanted for GC or Falmouth were offered. We did this same cruise Jan 2020, both GC and Falmouth became seadays because of bad weather. I was hoping to book the excursions we missed then, but neither were offered. I'm going to constantly check to see if they get added.

I would not count on Grand Cayman being open. It's still closed to cruise ships and shows no signs of easing restrictions any time soon.

Yea, I'm not. I thought I read on here that GC was opening back up to cruise ships in Jan, but I wonder if that will happen. I'll be happy if we go somewhere else, we had cruise in 2018 that had to skip St Marteen due to weather and we went to CC instead(LOVED that!). I'd rather not have a missed port turn into a seaday, but understand when it has to be done. I'll be happy to just sit on our verandah and look at the waves! 😊

We're March 12 Fantasy. Close. :)

That explains why only the Dolphin excursions and about 2 others were available. In the beforetimes, we were going to do the Submarine viewing of the Coral Reef. I totally get why that wouldn't be happening now, but our family was disappointed.

Yes. It was all dolphin and just a few more for our's also. We didn't want a dolphin one, very disappointing in the choices. I chose a snorkeling one, but don't really care about doing it. Fingers crossed they add more.

We did it on our last cruise (Magic on 11/27). I thought it was an absolute waste of money. The whole thing was about 45 minutes long and part of that was the 15 minute ride to the reef and the 15 minute ride back. Once we got to the reef we were each given a small cup of oatmeal and allowed to feed the fish off of the side of the boat. Tbh, we barely even looked through the glass bottom. The bottom of the boat was so deep compared to where we sat and once we stopped at the reef it was easier to just look over the side.

Forgot to ask... what's the earliest boarding times and do I have to check in at midnight to get a good one?

I'm hijacking this thread since the title works with my question even if the original question was a little different :) With Disney's new flex policy to move reservations up to 15 days before departure, will there be any problems if I check-in at Day 30 but decide to move our reservation sometime before the 15 day mark?

No.

This is my plan too. With the full refund offer within 14 days of your cruise date, this may be us. I’m in penalty stage now and I know we can cancel within 14 days of sailing for covid reasons. One is being exposed to someone who has it. My teen granddaughters encounter this scenario every week, just yesterday 2 members of the swim team are positive and my granddaughte is on the team. My SIL is exposed weekly too….law enforcement and a k-9 trainer. Some one at both test positive weekly. My SIL got his booster this week, and my daughter and granddaughters get their boosters next week. (They are actually getting the FluRona shots….double jabs) should we be worried about testing positive. I think our odds are 50% we go on the cruise February 26th. I feel I should’ve never PIF at this point, but now I’ll get penalized to cancel. Moving isn’t an option without losing my placeholder discount. my placeholder expires sept 2022 and I’ve already have a May 2022 cruise booked and a sept 2022 cruise booked.

Remember you can always cancel your May or September cruise and rebook it by moving your current cruise. Price may have gone up a bit but i’ve noticed price increases these past couple years have not been too bad. If you do it all on the same phone call with DCL they can very likely pick it up as soon as it drops and get you the same room.
