I have a reservation for Aug 10-14. I would like to switch it over to AAA to hopefully get the discount. Because I am adding on the my house, I may have to cancel the trip. Can I book through AAA and cancel before a certain date and not be penalized? I really don't want to have TA do work for nothing. Could I still book a trip through AAA maybe in June or July for those dates and there'd still be discounted packages available? Thanks.

We usually book with AAA (room only) unless there is a better discount. You have to cancel the room 5 days before arrival for no penalty. I personally would not wait until June/July to book with AAA as chances are they will be sold out for AAA rooms. You can book directly with Disney, you don't have to go through AAA for a room only ressie.

The previous poster is referring to the policies for cancelling a room-only reservation. If you are booking a package, this does not apply to you.

If you're booking a package, check your particular branch of AAA because some regions have different cancellation policies. Disney's policy which still applies is you must cancel 45 days prior to your check-in day. From day 44 to day 6, cancellation penalty for a package is 100$ and for less than 6 days it's 200$.

Now.. the catch is some AAA offices have a further 'cancellation fee'. Check with your office to see if that applies to you.

Anything is possible.. but early August will be busy this year for a number of reasons and even now the choices are probably at least limited. I would book it now and then cancel if you have to. (Depending on whether your AAA office charges a cancellation fee)

And since you'll probably ask :) ... There is no advantage to booking room-only and trying to convert it to a package. Basically to switch from room only to package, they have to cancel your room only and then book the package. I'm not sure how this works exactly, but it is entirely possible that when you cancel your room only reservation -- no discounted packages would still be available.

Thanks. I have a package so I would need to check with the AAA agent to see if there are any additional cancellations fees.

Be very careful. We booked a package and I cancelled almost 2 months before the trip was suppose to take place. AAA wanted to charge me $40 a person ($160 for the family) for cancelling. They did not care that disney does not charge a penalty for cancelling this far out. They did not issue tickets or anything, just booked through their offices. I was livid, I did ask the agent if the cancellation was the same as disney and he nodded "yes". I fought it and did not pay the fee, but I would never book through them again, just because of this.
